Just wanted to let everyone know that Xbuntu/Kubuntu/Ubuntu linux will see the MPC 1000 no problem and is able to transfer files back and forth without problem.

i am 100% behind the movement of open sourcing and the brilliant results it can yield. unfortuantely, i am not a coder.

support is dope

I would really like to see the day when linux based operating systems can be used as fully functional DAWS.

Right now I have my M-Audio 2496 working perfect in Xubuntu, use Audacity, LMMS and have been messing with Wired.

I think one day it will happen, we just need the big names to jump on board.

and it needs to happen

honestly, if more comptuer users were actually computer literate (and you KNOW that 90% of the people who "use" a computer really know how to use simple programs and VERY basic OS upkeep, you'd have more people lookign toward open source os's, including myself.

as of right now, i use a pc because of acid and reason, as well as because i'm used to using a pc. if there were more program reasons to go to linux, i def would

you don't need to be a coder. anything can help, submitting a bug report for example, or writing a bit of documentation, or submitting a good idea etc...

anyway, you should definetely try Ubuntu when you get some spare time. i bet you will like it. ;)
make a dual boot, so you can choose at startup to boot windows or linux.

windows for reason and acid, and linux for all the rest (internet, email, office stuff etc...)

paused -> did you try ardour as DAW and jamin for mastering ? they both seem really good.

By paused Sun Aug 27, 2006 11:58 pm
yeah i have tried that program

I find the linux audio apps still haven't reached the potential for a full switch over.

just like GIMP Vs. phostoshop

Ahh well one day.

I have alot of questions about this OS "JJ" have developed, and picture a day when a person given the proper skills can fully develop their own OS for their own hardware. Instead of rocking "Top wanted features" you just implement them yourselfs

:D :) :o  8) :?

like this: http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/
or that: http://openwrt.org/ for some routers
:)

I just pust myself on the x0xb0x waiting list a few days ago. I'm still buying a TB-303 eventually, but the x0xb0x is still something I want to build when I can.
