Pro Tools MTC sync

How? I had a go the other night but I was pretty tired. Had some luck except Pro Tools would start at like bar -1400 or something. Anyone had any luck doing this? Its easy to sync with midi clock but it sounds like shit - messes the timing up really bad. MTC sounded a whole lot better

make sure u dont have an offset in pro tools. it should be set so that 0:0:0:) starts at bar 1.

check ur session settings.

had exactly the same problem too - not figured it out yet - ben studying for my Pro Tools 201 exam - not had time to figure it out yet!

I didnt have any problem syncing with Pro Tools!! You might want to check your frame settings.

How do you set Pro Tools up for MTC sync? I've searched the manual but it was pretty useless.

I have PT m-powered but it it should all work the same. But anyway here's my setup:

MPC1000--- MTC selected for both in and out. Make sure you set the frame rate at 30. Set Receive and Send MMC to on.

Pro Tools7---- Setup/Midi/midi studio setup/create new instrument(MPC2000) and set your input and output ports then select receive and send on all midi channels then exit/Setup/Midi/Input devices/enable your midi device that you just created(MPC2000) then exit/Setup/Peripherals/Sync tab select Generic MTC Reader under device then select your device(MPC2000) under Port then set Min Sync Delay to 30 frames/Machine Control tab select your device under "send to" ID#127 then set the Preroll to 30 frames then enable it then exit/Setup/Session/Time Code Setting select MTC to Port then select your midi device(MPC2000)/Time code rate(set to 30)/Feet+frames rate set to 24 then exit.

Now you should be ready to Rock and Roll!!!!!!! This is the exact setup that I used so you should be good now

seems like a really convoluted way to make it work.

i just set mtc out on the mpc and then hit the sync button on pro tools transport and hit play on the mpc, simple as that. why are you sending to and from for mtc?

What sync on the transport?

i have it playing but it doesn't start at the beginning of the sequence. A few seconds are cut off

Its the icon on the left that looks like a clock. Press it and it will flash while waiting for sync and then turn solid when it recieves.

thats the nature of mtc. you need to add a blank bar at the beginning of your sequence to give it time to lock up.

What's good? I finally got the MTC working so when I hit play on the MPC1000, it'll control ProTools, , but for some reason, Pro Tools won't let me record. I have the record option clicked on the transport for protools, and the R clicked on a track, but it just plays the MPC's sequence, and won't actually record. I don't know what's going on. Please help.

did you connect the audio outs of the mpc to an available track input on pro tools?
