I think it would be cool if JJ could implement a real time timestretch that responds to simply changing tempo in the main screen like the MV-8000 has and a few other samplers. That ppp shit that's in there now is for the birds.

it would be cool but i dont think the mpc has enough computing power to pull off a timestretch engine.

don't those tend to sound pretty poor anyway? judging by acid's and ableton's...which admittedly i love and use for incredibly difficult to chop, busy loop samples, but it sounds grainy and timestretched as hell even at minor settings...

just sour graping i guess but i'm not really gonna shed any tears over this

I guess I'd like to see two versions of timestretch (maybe I should make this a request to JJ).

(1) Patched Phrase, as we have it today. I've actually had some respectable success using PP on basslines that I sampled myself playing.

(2) 'Extract timing'. In this case, we simply take each slice as a separate sample and play them back at the original speed and pitch, but the time at which the slices are triggered is altered. You could look at this to be similar to the 'extract timing' function in some slicing software. You make your slices, tell the MPC how many measures are in your sample, and it figures out the timing of each slice in measures, beats and ticks, and produces a track in a sequence that contains the timing information, and the program to trigger each slice appropriately. Hope this makes sense.

Number (2) looks like a pretty light-weight process, as long as the programmer is 'in the loop' to tell the MPC how long the sample is in terms of measures. It could possibly be implemented in real-time.

I guess you can already do it manually. Just slice your sample, assign it to a program and then reprogram to playback just as it did in the original loop. This would just automate that process, which I guess just makes me lazy.
