do you to re-format hard drive or do you lose the contents on the hard drive when you upgrade from os 2.1 to jj os 3.6?

Yes you should reformat your harddrive after you switch the akai os to the jj os.

do yourself a favor and back up your data to your computer before you reformat :D

I do not think that switching to the JJ OS will cause you to lose any information already saved on the hard drive. However, backing up your data and reformatting with the JJ OS is recommended due to a flaw in the Akai formatting routine that can cause data corruption in the saving process -- but this has nothing to do with reading from the drive, only saving to it.

In theory, it should be a good idea to reformat w/the JJ OS even if you plan to go back to the Akai OS afterwards as the new format should prevent the Akai saving bugs. Both OSs should be able to read each others' drive format -- assuming the data on the drive isn't corrupted (by Akai) to begin with.

I should note that I haven't tried this as I'm still using flash cards formatted w/the pre-V2 Akai OS which didn't have these problems.
