Important note about SAVING on JJ 4.0

I realized this weekend that the 4.0 saves differently than I'm used to and I almost lost a whole lotta work. I wasn't using the previous JJ OS', so if this is redundant, please disreguard it. I went from the original 1000 OS to JJ 4.0.

Before I could just save the program (with samples), and save my sequences. Then when I loaded it, I would just load the program (with samples), and then the sequences (not all the original folders with samples in them) and all was ready to go.

On the 4.0, it doesn't save the samples seperatly, it just remembers what they were. So, for example, if you have folders with drum kits in them that were used in the program, you have to load them as well for the program to recognize them. On the original OS, it would save whatever samples were used in the program seperatley from their original folders so when you loaded the program, all the samples were there. It's not that big of a deal, but it threw me for a loop when all my samples had "?" next to them and none of my sequences would play.

I've had some weird saving stuff recently with 4.01. A couple of patterns I've noticed:

#1

1. Create a folder.
2. Save entire memory to folder.
3. Load project and samples aren't in the program. All note data is there, but no samples are assigned to pads in program.

#2

1. Create a folder.
2. Save entire memory to folder.
3. Load project and project comes up in a new sequence (i.e. sequence 2) instead of original sequence.

#2 isn't a big deal except that it scares the crap out of me sometimes when I think my project hasn't saved.


Anyone else experience any weird save stuff. As a side note, I reformated my hard drive with 4.01, and I still experience some weird stuff.

Yeah I noticed this too. Here's the workaround: Instead of just loading the folder browse inside that folder and load the Project File and everything is aight, the samples are back in there again!

that is the recomended way to load a project, i have never had a problem loading this way

I also noticed the program file being labeled as "program2" at the bottom of the list and luckily I saw it and saved it. It was there as the original program and then again for some reason. The program2 was the one the sequences needed to assign the notes to the pads, so without that I had to start all over. I've been writing down all my pad assignments just in case, but so far so good. I'm just being extra anal and saving every little thing I created. That way when I load my prog's, and seq's, I also load all the samples and drum kit folders too.

If you load a program and the pad assignments have the samples with "?" next to them, but you have those sounds saved, just load them up and they'll be there. I hope it saves all my timestretch settings! I made a beat last night and I haven't loaded it back up yet. I'm crossing my fingers.
