THE THING ABOUT THE SEQUENCER ISSUE!

Yo I got a lil question. Since I am working with 3.xx to 4.xx something has changed in the recording-routine of the Sequencer, right?

I am used to Record by Pressing REC & PLAY START.
After I layed down lets say the hi hats, I want to add the snare and kicks. Okay, with the old AKAI OS's I would have pressed PLAY START & REC to start recording from the beginning of the sequence. When I do this nowadays, the other notes get deleted.
So, now I do it by OVER DUB. But this is kinda strange also. Cause before the sequence starts from beginning, the other notes are muted, to here the clicks or some isht like that. I don't know, but for my workflow I don't like this very much. There are times when this kills me cause I have to record the same seq again cause I pressed PLAY START & REC and all other Notes / Events are erased... it's frustrating.
Anybody else who had made this experience???
I am wondering why JJ never mentioned anything about how the recording procedure was meant to work since they changed it!
As for me, I just want my events not getting deleted when I press PLAY START & REC.

I don't get what you are saying! I've always recorded they way you described, but I've always swithed tracks to put down other parts. If I wanted to add to the same track, I've always hit overdubb.

That's why I said I don't get it???

so you're saying that after hitting record + playstart, it doesn't switch to overdub mode when it gets back to the beginning of the sequence? is that what the problem is?

no the problem is that earlier notes just get deleted... that never happened with the akai os

i think i'm confused as to what you mean then.

when you're hitting record + play start, it starts at the beginning of the sequence and overwrites the existing notes with the new notes that you play, right? cuz that's what it's supposed to do.

if you want to record notes on top of what's already there, you're supposed to use overdub. that's why there's the two separate buttons.

am i missing something?

Que? I'm always used to after playing my hats on lets say track 1 then press overdub and play. Rec will indeed erase all your early recorded notes! This has always been even in the old akai os!
Just select another track OR re-check that you have Poly on in the parameters option in program mode !

yeah after reading it again i definitly think you may have mono on in the parameters of program mode.. this is set by default :S

yeah but are the notes really deleted (in step or grid edit) ? or are they just muted.. if they are really deleted, it's just because after you recorded a track, you really have to do overdub, this has always been so! .. but if the notes are just there and not played, it's a problem of the mono/poly..

but he said that it worked when he hit overdub + playstart. if the program was set to mono, then even when he hit overdub + playstart some notes wouldn't get played.

Is this the steps your following? If so ; after playing rec + playstart again every note will be deleted wich you previously played.

this has always been overdub! really! i just updated from os 2.01 to 4.13 !
