wow fellas, i just had a VERY exciting, caffeine induced idea.

this os has done WONDERFUL things for qlink sliders, as we all know - and they're relatively obvious things, too. stuff that should have been there to begin with. unfortunately, we've had a very limited way of editing these things. that's all about to change as midi track in grid and grid qlink give us exclusive and powerful graphic control and editing over our recorded slider and knob movements.

i've been thinking about presets for a long time in this mpc. we have some fairly limited options here. let's look at the different things you can load into your mpc while you're working on a project without loading a new project.

1 - obviously, a sample. this is not really presetable, as a sample in and of itself is a preset.
2 - a program. think - the chromatic program. this is a preset in a way.
3 - a sequence w/ preexisting note/slider/cc data. not program specific.

number 3 strikes me as the most interesting option of the three, and the most underused (in my own personal workflow).

what if we posted online some seqs w/preexisting note/slider/cc data? like one with an 8 bar realtime filter qlink sweep DOWN set to TRACK. or the same thing inverted - going up. or one that emulates a sine wav, triangle wav, etc etc - in a sense creating a freestanding LFO over your track.

these seqs would have no note data per se, only qlink and/or CC data. you could simply load the sequence and merge the track with an existing track in a sequence that you're currently working on.

i've given some simple examples, but imagine what else there could be. each loaded qlink preset could be tailor made to fit your particular sample pgm once we get the in depth editing - it'll just give you a rough structure to follow.

i really should edit that - i'm not in dc these days, but i'm close. i'm in fairfax right now, going to George Mason. i'd like to chill sometime, though - hit me up if you hear of a good concert at black cat or 9:30, we could meet up and grab some beers, maybe blow a jay and make a beat or two. i went to the rugged man, outerspace and jedi mind show a couple weeks back and that was pretty fun.

one question tho would u just place the samples ur using in the template or overlay what ur currently working on with the preset is there a way to layer them?

hm ok let me give you an example.

say the preset is for a filter sweep down, like you want your sample to lowpass out (alternative to a fadeout).

you'd load the sequence, which would just be the recorded qlink data.
say your sample is 16 even chops, just a chopped loop sample.

go into mode/pad 11, set it to a lowpass on all, and set it to an appropriate # and res.
go into mode/pad1 and set it to qlink, realtime filter ALL
overdub in your sample notes by hitting the pads.

playback. you should have a clean filterout.
essentially, this saves you the time of making a filtersweep. of course, since this was a particularly easy filtersweep to have made, it might just be faster to do it yourself, but imagine instead using a "sine" type qlink recording, or triangle or square.

yea home im feelin that like a tweaking time saver give u more time being creative than tweaking to get a certain sound or effect

right, and it also gives us all more to share - when i get a chance i'll make a few. we might not be able to make too great ones until we get the graphical editing (so they're really geometrically sound) but this interests me, particularly because it gives us another freestanding LFO.

as of now, the LFOs start over again every time you hit the pad. this would let them NOT start every time you hit the pad.

i can forsee putting up tons of these, i mean...there are lots and lots of them to make - and each one will have to be made at both regular tempo res and doubletime tempo res.

ok ant tell me this cuz i dont use lfos too much but can u explain what the free stading lfo will do will this make it so its continuously on beat with lfos on diffrent pads all in all i just dont get lfos

k, say you've set an LFO (sine) to effect your pitch (100) at every beat (1.00).

set this to a long string sample or something and hit play. the result is goofy as shit, funny sounding.

now, hit it agaain and again. notice that the pitch starts over again from the beginning. if it was "Freestanding" it wouldn't start over again, the pitch would continue to change from where you were hitting your pad. essentially, the sine wav of your LFO gets ruptured when you hit the pad again - in a freestanding LFO, it would continue whether you hit your pad or not.

this is what you'd be able to do with the qlink preset - create a freestanding LFO that doesn't restart when you hit your pad again. using this, you wouldn't even have to enter the LFO page in the mpc program.
