I need someone nym  to explain these things to me as if I was an ameoba how important is the 'program change' feature, how do you folks use and apply it, it allows you to do what?

and thanks

i'm no nym, but i'll try... program change (or pc, as we non amoebic-people refer to) is only useful if you work with some external synthesizer or something else which is pluged to your mpc via midi. it let's you switch the sounds and soundbanks in the synthesizer without touching it. so if you select pc:12, the synth goes to sound no. 12. very useful, but as i said, it's useless if you only have a mpc.
hope that was helpful...

very much so, thanks CR then would be very useful for softsynths.
help abounds on the forum tonight I think I'll try another.

whats so useful about the 'grid editor' in what ways are folks using that to its fullest potential
anybody?

damn, the PC thing is less flexible than it was before.
now there is no way to send PC from the seq without having the automatic PC being sent...

2 choice:
0FF = does no send any PC (even the one in the track)
1, 2 or 3... = send PC 1, 2 or 3 and the PC in the tracks.

no way to send ONLY the PC inserted in the track anymore. :(

omg JJ must be real tired. did you notice the new way to display the "use track mute events" setting ?

befiore it was hilight "MUTE" and press "window".

now it is press "f5 MUTE" and press "window". this is a complete departure from how everything else works in the mpc. it really should be hilight something and press window. same as everything else in the mpc...

this must be the worst update so far imho.

he needs a holiday he's deffo in danger of burnout

remember JJ we love your work, but the unit has gotta be STABLE at all costs! label upgrades as BETA if you prefer, then users can choose a 'last stable final' version for mission-critical work or a newer beta to experiment with and bugcheck

By truvc Tue Dec 12, 2006 12:51 pm
maybe if users had not put so much pressure on him he would have had more time to think things through properly... oh well, the same old story everywhere, rush the programmer and the result will be garanteed to be more or less crap.

haha kind of like the way the page offers not 1, not 2, but THREE os's? quick question, how is 4.21 not stable? i haven't used it yet

this is a complete departure from how everything else works in the mpc. it really should be hilight something and press window. same as everything else in the mpc...this must be the worst update so far imho.

truvc please clear this up to me, it's early in the morning and i didn't sleep much. why are you so violently opposed to a different way of hitting mode?

haha. sorry to sound violent. it's my evil programmer side coming to surface
so, what i was talking about is "GUI consistency" in the operating system. everything is done with "hilight + window" or "mode + pad": it is dead simple + consistent = good gui = easy to remember and use.

but to add a new way, only for one feature, breaks the consistency. and it is door open to more obscure and unrelated key combinations which would just make the mpc more complex. and if he adds a few more like that, we will need to refer to the manual for them.

but not a big issue as it is. more a matter of principle. so i would not report it to JJ. not worth it.

--------
the other change with the PC is a problem for me though. i had to revert to 4.20D. and it is rather tricky to explain what the problem is.

well enough moaning. i trust the JJ and i am sure it will be all good for everybody in the end. (hopefully soon ;) )

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!!!!!!!

This is "Off da chain!!!!!" I'm going to download this bad boy right now!!!!
Wow. Program change always displayed = less wear on our data wheels!!
Also, the automatic sequence event entry is also a plus as well as the ability to do program change on within the bank select window!!!!

haha cool you had me alarmed for a second. i guss i'm luck, i've got a really good memory for hotkeys and key combinations. i have all my programs on my pc hotkeyed via WINKEY. i open firefox w/ windows key i, word with winkey w, acid w/ winkey a...

and there are a bunch of more complicated ones for other functions. utility makes me remember em
