Question on the JJ OS available for the MPC2500.

So, direct recording is disabled when you use the OS? But, using the OS for the 1000 enables this feature? Kind of odd to see one of the more alluring features of the 2500 be disabled within an OS that is supposed to build upon. I'm pretty sure that it must have been replaced by some other great features, but the AKAI OS is pretty feature stacked anyway, so there might not really be a need to switch.

Direct recording and continuous sample track was removed and replaced with 4 audio tracks.

The JJ OS for the 2500 is just a modified 1000 OS. Next month, you will have the chance to actually pay for this modified OS.

You can freely use the OS for now. If you like it, keep it...if not, just go back to the Akai OS.

they managed to make a 2500 out of the 1000

You may have issues if you are envious of a drum machine. If you are unhappy with your MPC 2500 and feel as if the 1000 and its 3rd party OS will fit your needs, simply sell your MPC 2500. You will have plenty of money to buy that 1000, its OS, and have a few hundred dollars to play with...

i won´t sell my 2500 ,its not the 1000 hardware in a bigger case ,or what?

wow, i was skeptical on updating to the JJ OS, and i must admit...im glad i did. Plus i can always go back to the akai os at anytime. i actually think that the 4 tracks of audio feature that replaces the direct recording feature is more user friendly, because you can actually preview what you are about to record right in the main window...

how do the track mute's work on jj's 2500 OS? does it have the same bug as the akai os?

When you solo a track to record in your DAW and go into song mode the mute automation that you recorded in each sequence won't playback


And also when recording mutes in a sequence it doesnt remember you mutes in overdub... you have to do all your mute automation in one pass

Recording track mutes is a function that was first seen in the MPC 4000 and has been implemented in these newer MPCs. The MPC 2500 user manual/addendums don't give many details on how this function works. So while the obvious response is to say that it is a bug, it could also be a limitation of this function.

I would check with MPC 4000 users to see how this function works on their machines. The 4000 manual states that track mute events are recorded in memory that is independant of conventional track memory. I am not very sure if this has any impact on the way track mutes work in song mode, but just putting that out there.

So I believe the best way to get to the bottom of this function is to check with MPC 4000 users (and read about this function in the MPC 4000 manual/addendums). Also I would try loading up the JJ OS to see if it functions the same.

I played around with this function this morning.

I think you may be confusing the MPCs mute record as automation like such features of a DAW. They are not the same.

The MPC simply turns MUTEs on or off at certain points that you record or insert. If you have a track already muted..it will stay muted unless you insert a track on at some point. So you will have to make sure that prior to playing a sequence, all the tracks in the MUTE menu are on.

I'm not sure if this is a particular bug or my own human error, but my situation is like this.

I have about five four bar sequences
1st track melody (3 samples split up)
2nd track drums (I like to play them all together)
3rd track synths (some synth notes I played in, no midi)
4 track sin bass

now I usually take my sequences into song mode etc.
My problem has mainly been w/ recording the track mutes on the first track ALWAYS.

I have "mute track events" turned to on for each track. and with the other tracks it's great though it never seems to work for the first track. I've tried setting my mutes for the first track up in step edit but to my fustration I get the same results.

I asked about this JJ O.S. because I'm curious. I would like to learn the Akai O.S. first being that the 2500 is the first MPC i've ever owned. I'd like to learn what i've invested in before turning to a 3rd party O.S

Did you make sure that all tracks are UNMUTED prior to starting the sequence?
