the most recent chopping programming

is very enjoyable to me. i really like it. i kind of wish that the trim mode was more like it, too.

i like making the chops by ear first, and then running along w/ a fine toothed comb (zoomed all the way in) to find the nearest zero crosspoint.

EXCELLENT coding on the newest chop shop. really can't be beat.

agreed on that, i expected that it would be a **** to learn again the new features but actually it was real easy, especially the new zooming options.. makes chopping real easy and a pleasure to do.. it goes quick too! i guess i'm working as fast as i'm working with recycle on the computer.. well.. allmost

i would go as far to say that when this new chopping is truly 2nd nature to me, i will be as fast as recycle, except in terms of the autochopping. nothing beats recycle for that, and nothing really needs to!

Talking of Autochop functions - does anyone use this function in the new OS?

I find it to be pretty patchy (in terms of results) - seems to chop all over the place - even on loops etc that you think would be pretty easy to chop - i.e. - obvious and large transients.

Anyone else? - or is it just me not using too often that has soured me against it?

i only use it on its default setting for some breaks. works fine for that, but still needs to get touched up

it's barely faster than doing it by hand, really.

i thought i had the perfect idea back in the day. i'd chop in recycle and set the tempo of the midi low so theres huge gaps in my breaks. then i tried to auto chop it and the chops were off. i test auto chop in each version but its always the same hits. not quite sure what he uses but you'd think it'd chop between digital silence?! either way i dont use my computer much to assist me in editing samples these days. i love my mpc

Well most of the time i try to trim a nice loop on the computer first and then put it on the mpc, or just try to count the bars that i want to use of the loop, and then just adjust the account of regions i'm gonna use..

anyhow, this rocks! thou i'm a bit dissapointed with grid edit.. there should be a better workflow for that .. liked the old one better..

keep at it, you'll grow to love it. it's incredibly powerful in conjunction with shift timing and swing. the grid is my favorite part of the jj os.
