the point of input thru?

i like using the input thru to get pitch shifted ,filtered, effected dubs going, using external sources.....

but whats the point if isnt it possible to record any of it into the 1k?
it almost makes it a throw away tool....

yeah, its wierd 'cos the seq is stopped when ui go into 'input-thru' mode.

i thought this maybe was because the 1k cant handle the combined playback of in-thru and the onboard seqs.

but when im slaved via midiclock, the mpc (in 'thru' mode) runs fine, and also manages to play all the seq tracks and the thru+qlink #shifts+filter+fx!
and even while recording the mix to a sample.

so could it be a JJ bug preventing the seq from playing when not in slave?

I just use it when I don't want to power up the computer (everything is mixed through my interface) - I can patch one synth into the input through, plug in some headphones, and I'm off....

it's also good for monitoring your input before recording audio tracks.

Yeah, that's what i like about it too.
Sometimes, just keeping it basic with the mpc1000 and a DSI Evolver with a pair of headpones is all I need. Also, with the DSI Evolver, i have audio inputs and i can resample what I need through it's internal effects. This combo is very powerful.

Basically, it's like what Nym would do with the SP-404, but somewhat different, given all the internal routing options between synthesis, and effects. Some day i'll have to get around to demonstrating this (if i can find the time and a cam-corder). If anyone's got a synth with audio inputs, it'll really expand the path for some wild experimentation.

i like using the mpc with input thru on in places where otherwise i wouldn't have access to X equipment - vhs stacks in a library for example. they usually have decent quality vcrs that play in hifi, and the quality is pretty damn good. just makes it so i don't need a mixer.

i rarely use just the mpc and the sp404 together, as in no other piece. i'd like to, but while making a song i always start with the "input source" like a vhs tape or a record, or a recording. i'd like to just load up with a bunch of good samples and hit the road with just the 404 and the mpc, see what i would come up with.

the mpc and evolver is a killer combo. i absolutely love it. i ALWAYS sample/record directly to the mpc. after falling in love w/ my MPC i stopped using my computer for my music needs altogether. even when im recording vinyl to convert to mp3 i sample directly into the mpc and go from there. never had any issues w/ my recordings

if you aren't using anything at the inputs i highly recommend at least an fx unit to process your sounds with. the integration of gear is inspiring..
