why have the mpc programs always been so organised that the midi note assignments are all over the place, and not in a chromatic set up?

whats been the advantage of this way of doing things?

not sure. but i think the pads notes are assigned as stated in the General midi norm. just because it is a standard.

it permits you to switch your sounds assignement to any midi machine which are GM compatible (99% of them)
