Does anyone have the MPC 1000(JJ) working with Pro Tools 7.3

Please Help SumBody. Im on the verge of switching to strictly hardware. I cant get this to work for nothing. Im using and MBOX, Midi sport 2x2. Its just frustrating They say LE doesnt send time code I can control plugins through MIDI but I cant Sync The MP to play at the same time All I need is for it to work once and I'll be good 4 life. SumOne hook ya boy up Pleaze. Stank you smelly much

Right - are you trying to sync the MPC to Pro Tools (MPC Master)

Or syncing Pro Tools to the MPC (Pro Tools master)

As a matter of interest - how are you controlling plug ins through MIDI? - does this acheive full plug in automation?

Im trying to figure out how to use both as slave and master, currently I am only able to use it as a MIDI controller through my Midi sport. I guess the only thing thats better with the MPC than like a trigger finger or axiom is the note repeat but thats about all I can see. I want to use the MPC sequencer I dont really care for the Pro Tools sequencer. I havent tried using automation yet as I've spent countless hours in the Peripherals page and the synchronization page of Pro tools. I just wish it was a detailed way to do this because Pro TOONZ is s'posed to be the INDUSTRY STANDARD. I see I'm not the only one with problems as over 80 people have viewed this thread at the time.

Thanx MCL for the response, Ill try it later when I get to the studio and get back to you. I'm using an MBOX 1, maybe the ID being set to 1 is my solution I never knew how to identify the ID. I stil think there should be clear explanations from DIGI Akai or JJ on how to do this. The explanation is on the Digi website is only about the 2000xl, Akai's is null and void.

I got it to work as a master, Thanx alot. I wasnt able to slave the MPC though what are your configurations on the synchronization and the machine control page for slaving?

MPC settings:

Sync in 1

Mode: Midi Clock

MMC Off

Pro Tools:

Setup > Peripherals > Machine control tab

Midi Machine Control (Master) - Tick the enable button and choose the port that your MPC is connected to from the drop down menu.

ID - 0

Pre roll - 90 frames.

Midi Machine control remote (slave)

Tick the enable box and set ID to 127.

Setup > Peripherals > Sychronisation tab

MTC reader port - Any

MTC Generator Port - Choose the Port that the MPC is connected to.

Now when you press the space ber to start Pro Tools the MPC should follow - at the very top middle of the MPC main screen it should read CLK SYNC and the tempo field will change to (EXT) to reflect that it's getting external sync in from PT. - Hope this helps - these are the settings that I have and it works perfectly for me.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. When you have the MPC as slave can you utilize the quantize and swing on the MPC as you sequence as well as utilize any other functions of the MPC sequencer?

Also how did you know the ID numbers? I think that may have been the key to the whole thing.

Yep - the quantise and swing of the MPC remain intact - Pro Tools is only telling the MPC when to start and stop playback - it doesn't effect the units timing and sequencing features.

As for knowing the ID numbers etc - its a bit of trial and error on my part and educated guesses - i'm currently on Digidesigns training program, studying to bre a Pro Tools operator.

I take it you got it all working ok?

I'll have to try slaving the mpc later at the studio but thanx a lot for all the help. I never would have guessed those ID's. I'm just in the process of trying to get my studio running smooth and efficient. I plan on going through the digi courses as well. I've been using Pro Tools for about 4 years now do you think its wise to skip the 101 class and take the 101 test or is the 101 class helpful?

I nearly made that mistake too - Missing out on the 101 course that is..

I did it in the end though and found it to be very helpful - contains loads of very general stuff - but it lays a very good foundation for the other courses and there are a few nuggets in there that are worth their weight in gold.

You can buy the 101 course book from Amazon now too - comes with all the excersises on DVD with the book - and its pretty reasonably priced.

I start the 210M course next week - and hopefully pass the exam and become a fully qualified Pro Tools operator

I'll keep that in mind and I'll take the 101. Do you feel the courses you've taken has greatly improved your production abillity? They have a few schools here in Northern California I thought about doing it but I feel my decision has been solidified now!

I decided to take the plunge into Pro Tools courses to really get the best out of the program.

It's so huge and complex and can do many many things that i love and would never have been able to work out just sitting there plugging away myself. Also various settings are talked through that enable smooth running of the program - something that can be infuriating for a novice (buffer sizes etc)

these courses sound interesting, are they expensive?
