4.40 delete all prog and purge - doesn't free up ram space

Hi, been using 4.40 this week.
When I turn on my MPC 1000 I always delete the onboard programs and sequences and purge the samples to free up ram. Strangely with 4.40 this doesn't seem to free up as much as when I was using 4.37. It seems 4.40 has less free ram before deleting anything as well. Obviously this means I can't load as many samples into onboard ram as I'd like. Tried a test where I loaded a 7.5MB folder of samples into ram from the memory card. No problem with 4.37, but insufficient memory with 4.40.
Switched back to 4.37 and was back to normal again. Sticking with 4.37 for now. Only got the stock 16MB ram so I need all the space I can get

4.37

WAVE FREE= 5.5MB
SEQ FREE= 1656KB
after delete prog & purge
WAVE FREE= 10.4MB
SEQ FREE= 1664KB

4.40
before delete prog & purge
WAVE FREE= 2.1MB
SEQ FREE= 4.6MB
after delete prog & purge
WAVE FREE= 6.9MB
SEQ FREE= 4.6 MB

Anyone else experienced this?

this is because of more sequence events which have been added (and the seq are also stored in ram)

This was discussed very recently in at least two threads related to the new sequence capacity.

But on a related note a question --

Why are you wasting your time deleting the factory presets everytime you switch on when you can simply disable the factory autoload and not load the stuff into memory to begin with?

djconrad- disable the autoload, as elektrik_muz had suggested, and if you still need more ram, you can save alot of money buy using the non-akai ram in the following thread...

No, its definitely a purge bug, I have it too! (OS 4.40)

If you are going to spend up to $1000 on a drum machine....go ahead and spend the extra $50 on approved Akai memory.

More bugs? There have already been over a dozen bugs fixes this month. JJ needs to slow down and get it right for us beta testers.

1. where is akai memory for the 1k for 50? Im about to get some 3rd party ram for 20 because the ram akai has i see as 149.99 everywhere

Let me clarify...when I say extra $50....I meant $50 more than the average price of non-approved RAM. If you call around, you should be able to get the RAM for about $100..and for those buying new MPCs, you can get the RAM for free.

Well, I didn't get it with mine. And I think it's silly to shell out more cash for RAM that is exactly the same kind as being used in laptops.

No. What I mean is I DO have the approved RAM, got mine from VST but the OS 4.40 bug is as follows:

1. First make sure you reached MAX ram capacity.. (You have no sample time remaining) Load programs and samples until full!
2. Hit MODE + PAD7 Program).
3. Hit Purge(F6)to delete all samples not used in programs.
4. Hit Mode + PAD6 'Trim'
5. Place cursor over sample name, Hit 'WINDOW'.
6. Hit (F6) 'FREE' You will see the available memory for sampling.
7. Close window 'F5'.(or Just hit 'WINDOW' and you will be back in 'TRIM' page).
8. Place cursor over start time of a sample, select a part of sample.
9. Hit EDIT (F6)
10. Select EXTRACT. Hit 'Do It' (F5)
Message pops up: "Insufficient Momeory" [BUG].

(FYI) If you try to LOAD a sample from Hard drive, its works perfectly! Only when you EXTRACT a new sample, it doesnt work.
Now JJ has the data, I already reported it to him.

JJ is the reason I still produce on the MPC, its amazing work he does and he is still very much appreciated!

Another thing thats been happening to me is pad samples I've played and recorded into a sequence going missing but their notes are still there as recorded in grid edit . Usually these are the notes towards the end of a sequence.
Also some sounds muting others in a sequence when they are not in any mute groups. Don't know if this is anything to do with polyphony but I was only using maybe 4 samples at the most at the time. The samples were individual chops from a loop.
If I get time I'll test this again with an earlier OS and maybe even the akai OS

make sure you do it for the "buggy" programm.
