is JJOS free?

I searched and keep getting the same posts but can't find anything. If it is why do I see I need a password for it.

I don't want to install the JJOS if it needs a password...

JJ V3 is free.

JJ V4 requires a password for saving.

I am just learning the reg v2.10 os. How much of a learning curve is JJOS and the normal V2.10 os?

I just bought the MPC1000-Ebook also. Will this book be obsolete for me with the JJOS?

Plus how stable is JJOS? I am down for modding things, but if it gets in the way of creativity, I have to step back for a sec and chill...

yea it's pretty stable. he's always updating it and adding features... so some versions have had bugs in them, but JJ swats the shig out of the bugs real fast like a samari. So you can stick with a version that's working well for you, or you can brave the new versions as they come and help reporting any bugs if they're there. I haven't had any problems with bugs or stability. Akai's 2.1 probably has more bugs in it then JJ's latest.
And if you know the regular Akai mpc 1000, then JJ's shouldn't be a problem. Just read Stan's manual to aquaint yourself with the added features and you should be ready to roll. Also, you can alway download the latest version to try it out before buying, you just won't be able to save anything untli you pay up and get your password. Or you can save with the 3.06 which is missing some of the kick arse features of the latest but it does let you save.

as for the ebook it will not be obsolete, all akai feature are still here. and everything covered in this good ebook are pretty helpfull for someone who just start with an mpc.

of course, as JJ have improve a lot the workflow on this machine, some process describe by Tutor, can be made a little bit easier. or in a new way..whatever...the basics stay the same.

maybe forums member will produce a kind of ebook addendum for the specific JJ os. BUT most informations can already be found here in this forum.

I have not even spent anything on samples yet, not that I will...

when the os is upgraded and re-flashed, does the HD need to be formatted again? or does the HD need to be reformatted whenever you bring the system back to factory defaults?

i reformatted when i first upgraded to jj, and havent since. works fine.

if I go 3.06 first then 4.x later on will I need to format my HD? will the songs get corrupt or will I need to reassign the sounds in my sequences?

not going from 3.06 to 4.xx, you may from 2.1 (akai) to 3.06 (jj).
