Best way to go about saving?

How do you feel is the best way to go about saving beats. For years now ive been just saving autoload and nothing else. But recently ive been having too many problems with missing samples and things not being saved right, so i decided to kick that idea and start to work with saving into indivisual folders. But i still would really like to keep my autoload to load up all my main kits and then make a beat then save it into a new folder. But whats the best way to do this, because if i just save the seq&song file then my program changes dont get saved, like my pitch velocity. Even if i make a new kit or record some new samples during this session. In that case i would have to save a project file which i really dont have enough memory on my CF card to save that big of file every beat. If anybody has some tips or advice it would be very appreciated.

i have a folder called 'Songs' in the root of my hard drive. in that, i create a new folder for each new track, and then after i've finished working on a track, save entire memory to that folder.

Save entire memory for each session you do.

a hard disk is the best and quickest way if you ask me.

>>> me too, except that I call it BEATS and then I just name the Subfolders just like this: Year_Month_Day blablabla. So it all stays in a chronilogical order and you can see the progressions you made over time / or analyze how whack you are at the moment (in my case)

i save quick ideas with pgms from my hdd on my 500 mb memory card, entire memory. when they develop and i don't want to use 10 different pgms anymore, i put all used samples together in one pgm, kill the rest and save it to hdd > tracks. this works perfect for me. i have the ideas on my cf and the tracks plus all of my samples and pgms to work with on my hdd.

that's a good idea! i might try that one.

I got everything sorted by month and in every month i make maps : beat01, beat02 etc. Everytime i'm busy i just save entire memory to a new beat folder

when i export i just give them names for example feb2007beat01.wav or so..

i gotta try that yr/mnth/day idea....thing is...i lose track of the favorite beats i made, cuz i cant remeber days i made em on...so maybe i'll make a New Folder per MONTH....and save titles beats named to SpazOut/Hypeness/ect...so i can remember the names of the beats i like for each month...) i used to just save beats named to fit the sound or mood of them...per yr folder....but i make so many im gonna start month folders with in each yr...that way it'll help me stay organized....(maybe add the date 8/10/06 ect...help a bit more...

you could still stick a name on them, as well as the date, or else make a new folder for each beat, and then within that folder, have more folders with the dates on, so you can have several different versions.

all good ideas fellas..I just make a new folder name it Beat 1,Beat 2 etc..thinking about changing to one of the above but i might add something like:(5) or (1) to it like a rating scale ...(5 )means the beat is fire,on its way to platinum status LOL and( 1) means its shit and try again..besides that way when Im showing peopl my work I dont really have to remember the beat,just go by my rating scale.
