hi forum,
i just had an idea and it won't get out of my head, so i'll post it here, tell me what you think about this:
there is another option besides 'time shift' and 'swing'. it's calles 'humanize' or whatever and if you switch it on, the mpc still quantizes the notes, but it moves the notes randomly some steps earlyer or later. and in my dreams, you can tell your mpc how much you want the notes to be randomly placed around the note. let me explain this with an example!
you switch on the humanize mode and choose:
5 steps earlier / 10 steps later
quantize is set to 16th.
now you record and instead of moving the notes to 00, 24, 48 and 72, the mpc randomly puts the note on a value between 5 before or 10 after the quantized position. ie 7 (+7), 20 (-4), 58 (+10) and 72 (+-0).
i'm not sure if the mpc is capable of radomizing, but the rest would be just programming.
what do you think?
bye
