My first thoughts about the latest JJ OS releases....

GLOBAL PROGRAM MENU (MODE + PAD 11):
1. JJ has started to clean up the mess that was being made. By adding the uniform F key tabs, the GLOBAL PROGRAM MENU now looks uniform with the rest of the other MENUS. The still needs to be done with the GRID MENU, which still needs some improvements.

2. The FILTER section is missing the ATT (attenutation) parameter which is still available in the FILTER section of the original PROGRAM MENU. It appears that in the future, JJ could include the GLOBAL PROGRAM features in the same section as the original PROGRAM MENU.

3. FILTER ENVELOPE needs to default to the FILTER you are working on. In other words, if I am adjusting the parimeters of FILTER 2 and I hit the OPEN WINDOW key to get to the FILTER ENVELOPE, it should bring up the FILTER ENVELOPE of FILTER 2.

4. Automatic Chromatic Assignment in this menu has been enhanced to include a high and low range. Nice touch.

5. It appears that the previous thoughts about LAYERS are changing. In this MENU, LAYERS are now called VELOCITY LAYERS. With the poplularity of the SIMULT PADS, it seems that seperate filters for each layer my never materialize  I hope I am wrong. I would still like those seperate filters as well as the option of being able to route layers to different outputs.

6. Another improvment is the PAD to NOTE ASSIGMENT. You now have the option of assigning note numbers to the pads in numerical order! Its about time for this feature.

So, overall, I am impressed. JJ should put less effort into trying to fix the bugs in Pong (actually, it needs to me removed..period), and improving the overall look of GRID EDIT. Also, I would like to put in a request to add CD as a RECORD INPUT source of AUDIO TRACKS.

JJ should next focus on the look of the GRID MENU (whch looks sloppy currently).

that's probably not going to happen without a change to the program file layout. each layer only has 2 positions available, except for layer 4 which has one of those positions used for Velocity to Pitch for the whole pad and so it only has one position open.

We no longer have the buttons that at the bottom of the GLOBAL PROGRAM MENU that will allow us to select a range of pads in the program (as in A11- D12).

Anyone figured out how we can do this now? If not, do you think this very useful feature is coming back?

it'll be back. "WHOLE" was an essential part of global program edit. my assumption is that it'll becoming back with "VELOCITY LAYER" capability - ie you can adjust the tune and other params of not only the top layer of the pad.

With OS 5.08....if you place the cursor on the time signature and then press the DOWN CURSOR KEY, the cursor skips the track VOLUME field and jumps straight to VELOCITY. Not really a big deal...but the feel of this OS is still a little untidy and unprofessional....I guess I would load up the latest update to take it for a spin.

going good. i actually had my mpc up and running last night with the new sensors on there. no rubber covering em (still perfecting the mold) but it felt really nice and the sensors were expressive without putting rubber down, even. just a very small place to hit with the finger, it was like typing haha

i don't know for sure how much i'll be charging for em. that'll take a little longer to know for sure. parts are more expensive than i'd like, unfortunately.
