Direct record/Thru/Synth ?

So i'm planning to buy a microkorg.

The plan is to hookup the microkorg thru midi to my mpc so that when i play some keys on the microkorg the mpc will record the midi data.(L/R output from korg to mpc rec in with input thru on)

After doing that i would like to record the microkorg sounds into my mpc. Would this be possible when using the direct recording technique?

So for example, track 2 is playing the midi data that plays the sounds of my microkorg. The l/r output of the microkorg are going in the record of my mpc. Then i record the microkorg sounds with direct recording... Would this be possible? And after recording it with the direct record i think it is best to get the midi track 2 on mute..

I want to use this so i can use a little bit of TC when playing the microkorg keys.

Is this a good method? Or does someone have a better idea for doing this?

I just tried this tonight using a Native Instruments VST Synth on my PC. It worked.

It is a good method. But i prefer to just record the synth without midi (just the audio).. So, I'd say the better method is to practice and skip the midi part, that way you also get your ideas into the box faster..

Another way of going around this is, when you've found the melody you wanna use and just record it in note for note (with a little space between) and then chop afterwards and convert to a pgm. that way you can easily play your melody and quantize it if you want to. also good for altering.

creating a new pgm is also a nice idea but that takes a little bit longer and since i'm a fast worker

anyway, after reading my post again i realised that i mostly dont use any TC when playing my bass lines.. it sounds best without any.. you know

the only questions thats left.. won't the mpc fcuk up the sound of the bassline when recorded? because before i just sampled 1 bassline note and turn it on 16 level or autochromatic and it appearred when playing basslines it sounds a little bit fcuk..(not the tones just the sound..).. or is that just a little unexperience that has to do with me?

have you considered the MicroX... I connected mine the other day and plugs in very nicely...

the MicroX also has midi controller templates that support tons of software synths... like Reason.

this is what i do....the microKorg has only 4 voices...you have to sample dude...

Yeah i've read about it.. but not planning to use it with software synths.. i want to use some dirty analog synth sounds for my basses or other dark string sounds, not too fancy stuff, just to experiment with..

and btw. could use mpc pads or microkorg keys for using midi, and besides that i got an old roland e-15 wich i can use as midi-controller

this is what i do....the microKorg has only 4 voices...you have to sample dude...

only going to use it for some bass and maybe some strings or dark sounds to fill up my beats .. so the 4 voices is no prob..

nah, if you follow the suggestions to either sample in the whole riff at once, or the whole riff note-by-note, it wont have to repitch any notes so nothing will be fcuked up.
