not "how do i use them"
but someone please explain how i can use them to better effect than either A, deleting the info from grid edit, or B, using qlink TRACK level to fade in and out rapidly.

i hope i'm missing something that will make me learn a new trick. folks who use this often, please describe when and why you use it, and to what effect.

I would imagine the ppl who prefer to use the mute screen as opposed to your methods do so because they use it for a live setting, since those 2 methods are more from a programming standpoint. Im just guessing tho because I use the qlink method, that works best for me.

i think it's also useful when you're orchestrating a song with an emcee for drum dropouts to emphasize certain portions of the vocals...

selfish is right.
i use the track-mute screen all the time, mostly while i'm performing live. it's the only way i can mute several tracks at a time.
and sometimes i make quick demos, record say 20 tracks in a 16 bars loop. then i record it live on my computer and arrange it on the flight, so i have a 3 minutes demo.
later (if i liked it), i loop this demo-seq several times and record my track-mutes, to check how i could arrange it. when i'm happy with the result, i start deleting the mutes.

i use it for live too (it's an easy way to make arrangement on the fly)
another cool thing is to automate the track mute (on immediate) on (eg) a pad to make step sequence gating effects...

i would really love to have the possibility to chose my tracks from this screen (all my lives are mainly on this screen...)

but is there necessarily a technique or sound i can get out of track mutes in particular? like a really fast stutter on/off?

It's too bad you can't do a sort of note-repeat type function with the track mute setting.

I guess one way to do it would be to set a blank pad in the program of that track and use note-repeat on that to cut off the sample and over-dub it in, but that would only work on monophonic programs.

I guess one way to do it would be to set a blank pad in the program of that track and use note-repeat on that to cut off the sample and over-dub it in, but that would only work on monophonic programs and only in special cases where the length of the sample was such that it would actually start up again after the mute, and not just stay muted until the sequences loops back to the beginning -- so actually, I guess that isn't a very helpful technique at all

ah dammit, I hit quote instead of edit - italics is the part i added

i just always ASSUMED that insert was just to insert a note event... i had no idea there's all sorts of events you could insert even though "why the fk should i NOT be able to do that?"

wow.

appreciate the help tho... that's massive for me!

Haha all you had to do was try ;)

but yea i had the same question as nym.. but i think if i wanted to drop the drums for a bar or the ending half of a bar, i could just record the mute, instead of trying to duplicate sequences and delete notes and such.

Track mutes would be far more powerful if there was a way to "convert" them, like the conversion deletes all notes in the muted time area, get me?
Had that idea when i converted a song to a new seq, then had to go through all sequences with tracks muted to delete the notes.

Ok no more feature requests, i know...

is it just more or does inserting a mute in 4.44 not actually mute anything? lol

i might wanna update.

does anyone remember if that was a bug or am i just really a moron?
