Hi I am running the latest 4.62 and I was curious why the samples cut each other off. Is this a new implementation?

Your program is set to Mono.

(either you're program or the individual samples, but usually by default the programs are set to poly)

so to go Program, or Global Program edit (whatever thats called) and in the top right corner u should see "MONO" highlight it and use the jog wheel to set it to "POLY"

I believe i tried that there are 2 places to change the poly/mono settings and still got the cutting off sample deal. Could it be that I created these samples on an older jj os?

That's a problem with the way 16 levels works on the MPC. Since the MPC is actually playing the same sample, but just pitched over 16 pads, if you press another pad while the sample is still playing, in 16 levels, the OFF message of one pad will also stop the other sample. That problem has always existed.

Makes sense.. 16 levels is after all technically playing the same pad in the sequencer just with tune variations (forgot the akai term for it)

yeah I never use 16 levels anymore now that there is the auto chromatic feature in JJ.

Much better than 16 levels

Thanks for clearing that up for me. How do you get to the autochromatic feature? Thanks!

while in program mode, move over to the tuning column , hit window, then AUTO is one of the options

16 levels is really only good for a few things IMO, that being filter and start/end

attack: the pad by pad attack curve is WAY too steep. if you take a hihat and put it on 16 levels attack, you have 2, maybe 3 pads on which the attack is short enough to actually be used as an alternation

16 levels is a clumsy function as it cannot be "aimed"
since 16 level just sets qlink information, it seems dumb to use it instead of qlinks, or autochromatic, or multisamples. it's quick - that's about the only great thing about it.

if you could set a HI and LOW though (the in betweens would be by 1/16ths) you could really get more nice results.

Hey nym.
When you say start/end. Do you mean using 16 level to control the sample start via the velocity>sample start setting and then assigning 16 level to velocity, or is their any easier way to do this that I am missing. I don’t see any way to control the sample end via 16 level. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Use the 'DECAY' option
