I tried bluebox for the first time today. I made my PGM file okay. Loaded PGM and samples into mpc okay. All pads played the sounds perfectly. Then when I made a beat, on playback the beat played back the wrong samples. Weird.

I then took the SAME samples and created the same PGM file manually inside my mpc. Recorded the beat and it played back perfectly.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anyone know how to correct this? I really want to continue to use bluebox because it makes creating PGMs faster and more fun... but I can't use it if it continues to make unusable PGM files.

Check the note assignment, if there are two samples assigned to one note, the mpc will playback a different sample then the one that has been recorded. This happened to me, when I created my programs in the Bluebox.

Quote,
Tnanks for your reply. I appreciate any help or feedback on this. When I made the PGM file in bluebox, I did get a few errors next to the MIDI Trigger box saying "Conflict with C05" etc. However, anticipating that might be a problem, I scrolled through the box until I found a note number that did not conflict. So when I was done making the PGM file, I had no note conflicts. Each pad had it's own note assignment.

The other problem I noticed is that I have my hi-hats assigned to MUTE GROUP 1 in bluebox. However, they don't work once they are in the mpc. Pressing the closed hi-hat is not muting the open hi-hat upon playback of the sequence. In fact, when I press the closed hat during recording, the open hat plays back on playback.

I've noticed that when I move certain problem samples around to other unused pads, I am able to record them fine. Here's a closer example:

I have bass drum on pad 1. When my sequence plays, it plays back the sound from pad 3 (Closed hi hat). If I manually move that bass drum to an unused pad, then I can record it and it plays back fine.

On another kit, I have another bass drum on pad 1. When the sequence plays, it plays back the sound on pad 5 (A tambourigne).

Both of those kits were created in bluebox with no note conflicts.

Bluebox is doing something crazy to the PGM files it's creating for me. If I assign samples to pads in bluebox and then do a SAVE ALL to a new folder. Then delete the PGM file and then load that folder to my mpc, the samples load fine. If I then use those samples to manually make a program file inside the mpc, EVERYTHING works perfectly! The only time I have problems is when I load the PGM file that bluebox creates.

I cannot think of a specific reason for that then. I would try loading the program and resaving it in the mpc, see what it does. I remember myself setting the mute groups in the mpc and resaving it. Otherwise try the other program creator that is listed here: http://mpc1000.com/.

Thanks for the tips. As you suggested, I tried resaving the PGM inside the mpc to see if maybe that would correct whatever was wrong with it, but that didn't work. Still same problems once I shut down and reloaded it.

I downloaded that other program. It worked much better. I created a PGM with it and loaded it to the mpc and had no problems creating sequences with it. The only problem I did have was hearing some wav files inside the program. Most of the wav files made a sound when I selected them with my mouse... but I noticed that a bunch of them that I sampled on the mpc myself would not make a sound when I was trying to preview them. They just all made like a little beep noise when I tried to hear them. Bummer. It's always something, huh? LOL

Thanks for all your help! Much appreciated! :)

or it might be the file names for your .wav sounds are too long, so when they are loaded into the MPC it cuts it off and only loads one sound with a similar file name.

JrTMoney2,
Thanks for your thoughts, but that's not it in my case. Remember I said that all my samples play perfectly when they are in my mpc. They all have very short file names, less than 8 characters. The problem occurs when they are in my mpc with a PGM that was created in Bluebox. I can use those same samples inside my mpc and create a PGM inside the mpc and everything works perfectly.

Rise of EPC,
I hear you about Bluebox and it's a shame because other than the problem I am having, I think it's a GREAT thing to have. You mentioned "global program edit." Is that another program I can download or are you referring to just creating the program inside the mpc... which I have found works perfectly for me 100% of the time. Also, that's a TIGHT looking mpc you got man!

and about my mpc .. THANKS all i did was took the plastic parts and spraypainted them!.. still look like the day i did it. (RUSTOLEUM)

Man, I did not even know about MODE > PAD11. I just checked it out! COOL!!! THANKS!!!

Speaking of changing the colors on the sides of the mpc. I painted the red sides black when I first got mine. I remember when they were first coming out with the black mpc1ks, there was talk of having a black kit you could purchase to totally change your red, white and blue mpc to look like the new black ones. Does anyone know if they ever came out with that kit and if so, how much it costs and where can you get it?

hi i have had the same problem especially when i used the "bulk sample load" function and how i fix it was:

in bluebox once you have assigned all you samples with their pads you must click "make pads chromatic" - under the tools menu. before you save your program.

This worked for me.

Dude!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I just tried it and it worked for me too! I am so happy I don't know what to do... well, except make a whole bunch of drum programs to celebrate! Seriously though, I would have never thought to try that and I don't know why it worked, but it DOES work perfectly now!!!!

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS A MILLION!!!!! :D

When the black kit came out, I ordered it from VST.

The only thing is that Akai never supplied VST (or even they're own warehouse) with the grey CF faceplate, knobs, sliders and buttons.
Other than that, my MPC looks alot better than it did beforehand, when Akai replaced my 1000 with a B-stock unit that really looked like $hit.

That's cool. Thanks for that link! :D

Yeah, I agree they should have included the grey buttons, knobs and faders too. I wonder why they didn't?

Was it hard to install the black kit? Did it come with instructions?
