CAN ANYBODY HELP ME WITH SETTING UP THE MPC 1000 MIDI TIME CODE WITH PRO TOOLS HAVING THE MPC AS THE MASTER. THE TIMING IS A LIL OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT MIDI TIME CODE IS BETTER THAN MIDI CLOCK BECAUSE THE TIMING IS BETTER AND ALSO IT IMPLEMENTS THE MPC SWING BETTER WITH THE MPC BEING THE MASTER.

protools works on mmc Not MTC.

you have to turn on the mmc in the midi options of the mpc. and the you have to turn on midi control via mmc on protools. it should work then.

personlay for recording purposes its better to make the mpc the slave

^^ this guy above is talking pure B-S
MMC is just the transport controls, nothing to do with timing.

Ok lets do some math

MTC is MIDI time code

MMC MIDI Machine Control

i completely understand his question. what i did was give him a soultion to get his hardware work in sync whith pro tools. i dont know what version of pro tools he has. but what i do know is that the version i have dose not have MTC. i sync via MMC and i slave the mpc to proloos so that when i want to track down i dont have to play the fishing game. i just arm the tracks for recording set the trim and record. Works flawlesly.

When i use cubase I use Midi time code and agin i set the mpc as a slave to avoid playing the fishing game. That is how you sync them providing that your BPM is reading the same on both daw and mpc.

Sorry i am very far from BS. you can either use this info or not use it. but dont slander people who are just trying to help

Ok, sorry, but you're not actually syncing in that case!
I don't wanna go to war but pro tools does have MTC, go to the session setup and make the settings.
That's the way to sync properly
Peace

aight gentlemen..

check it..

understand what you need, choose what you need, within the feature set of your gear and do it.

No matter what you "heard" know the facts/feature set of YOUR gear and what you are dealing with, THEN, make an informed and educated decision/guess as to what you next move is. Educate yourself and go for it.

Why all the confusion here? I've synced my Pro-Tools m-powered rig with my mpc with MTC before. Here's how :

Make sure you have a OS for your mpc that has MTC (the akai 2.10 version doesn't, the later JJ OS's do). On the sync page, you select MTC as the protocol to send, and the midi out-port to send it to. That port should be hooked up to your computers midi in port. Then you need to set up pro-tools to slave to the mtc. It's been a while since I set it up, but you do that in the preferences settings I believe. check out the pro-tools reference guide for that, because it is different depending on what version of pro-tools you have.

When you press play on the mpc, you will see the time code running along on the top of the screen.

To clear confusion :
MTC = Midi Time Code : a continuous stream of pulses that syncs machines together. It can take up to two bars before both machines are fully synced though (because no tempo information is sent at the start, the receiving machine has to figure that out by the time between the different pulses, which takes a short amount of time).
MMC = Midi Machine Control : this is a control of transport buttons etc.., and has nothing to do with tempo. It is sent just once when you press play/stop/rec etc... It is ment originally to control tape machines from a distance I believe, but can be used to start/stop Pro-tools from your mpc.

When you set up the same tempo on both machines, you don't need MTC really, unless you discover that both machines drift over time. I just use MMC and let them run at the same tempo.

start and stop is a for of being syncronized. yes we know the history of MMC . you guy have to stop talking like what you know is the only soloution. give respect to expirance. My epirance is where that soulotion came from if it works dont knock it. buy the im using pro tools le 6.7
no MTC in that version. Im most positive otherwise i would be using it.

Before JJ gave my MPC MTC and MMC ability, I used midi clock to sync MPC and pro-tools together.
Pro-tools cannot sync to midi clock, but it can send out midi Clock. The MPC can slave to midi-clock without problems.

So effectively you have three options to sync your pro-tools rig and your mpc :
MTC : best option, both can be made slave or master, not all versions of pro-tools have MTC apparently (mine does, it's m-powered 7.3).
MMC : only syncronises start/stop, the tempo's of each device are independent.
Midi Clock : Pro-tools can only be the master, not the slave, in this configuration. older pro-tools versions have this too.

I've used midi clock for a long time, but MTC gave me more options so i'm using that right now. The only downside to MTC is that it takes a bar (minimum) to sync the two devices up. Often when developing idea's I just set the tempo's equal on both devices and use mmc to start/stop them together. Works like a charm too, but for longer tracks i'm worried about small drifts in tempo (haven't experienced it yet though, it's mainly preventive).

Hope this helps?
