Strange, interesting auto-chrom glitch

I was playing around with auto-chromatic, looping single waveform cycles out of samples, then turning on auto chromatic.

Up to the original pitch (pad C1) this worked as expected.

Afterwards, it went through the looking glass. If you hold down the button, the mpc starts playing through the whole memory in sequence - so I get all the samples in memory after the one I've chopped, then - after about 50 seconds or so, on the attached file - what sounds like non-audio data stored in memory.

I recorded it, because I thought you might find it interesting. Sounds pretty much like a Warp Records b-side.

1st - hitting the C1 pad a few times
2nd - pressing a few of the other pads briefly, so you can see the autochrom is working, but the looping has got lost
3rd holding down the D16 pad and letting the mpc play through the memory until I get bored...

Strange... I haven't been able to reproduce it wth other samples, but I haven't tried very hard. Anyone else ever get this?

props. good find. can you maybe up the program or describe the steps of what you've done?

it sounds like an incarnation of the jessiah glitch, due to the fact that you've got VERY short samples looped (single cycle sine and saw type stuff, right? ive done that and autochromed them before, kind of a mini maelstrom, and i've gotten cool results but never something glitchy like that. course this was on a way earlier jj os, like early 4)

OK, here's a program which does it on my machine:

If you load it on an empty machine, this is what should happen:

Pads A1-C10 play as usual - a auto-chrom waveform from a speak & spell (expect a lot of ear-bending squawking if you want to check this out)

If you hold down one of the pads C11-D16, it will play the entire sample (it's a sequence of four bleeps) then go straight into white noise - which I assume is the sound of the JJOS itself

If you then load up some more samples, and go back to one C11-D16 in the GLITCH program, you'll hear the four bleeps followed by all the other samples, with tonnes of added digital glitch.

I'm using 4.59, btw.

Anyone else get the same?

ps: The first time I did this - I created the program, turned off auto load, loaded the machine empty, loaded the program, it was still running through all the old samples that I hadn't loaded into memory... That was spooky, but I couldn't reproduce it, so anyway...
