Is there a way to control all the the samples in a pgm with a slider (Q control). Not with the Track option either. I have samples on the same pgm but on different tracks.

Any ideas?

i don't think this is possible, sorry...

Any chance this can be implemented in future updates? Is it possible.

Also if the Q controls can correspond to a pad even if it's not on that particular Track at any given time. Do you get me?

qlink data applies to the track in which it is recorded, NOT notes recorded in other tracks.

what's your situation? there's always a way to do what you want.

Ok, I play in a band as the sampler. But I replaced a unreliable keyboard player. All the band previous keyboard material is a bit complex for me to play live with the mpc, so I got the keys part looping.

So this is how I got the MPC set up..
I load up about 10 songs into the 1000. (Keys and various other sound effects on multiple tracks). Each song is on a different sequence. So all im doing is switching between "Next Seq" mode and "Track Mute".

I want to be more involved and look busier up there. So I want to use the Q-Links. But I don't know how to make sure they correspond to the correct track in each sequence.

Any pointers on the above or just in general how to make it more interesting/streamlined/exciting. The band is also having a problem with following the rigidness of a sequenced key section.

ok, cool

here's the most important thing to get your head around.
you can record qlink data ahead of time and have it effect a track, even while you move to a different track.

BUT
qlink that you are currently playing (nonrecorded qlink) ONLY effects the track you are currently looking at.

answer - switch tracks instead of sequences?
answer2 - program multiple phrases on a single track using velocity layers switched via qlink?
answer3 - resample keyboard phrases as single samples/assign to pads/assign qlink to track and your parameter of choice? don't forget to leave program in MONO and leave 1 pad empty as a "kill switch"

there are many more answers here, but hopefully i've introduced some ideas into the mix.

Hey Nym, thanks a lot. That kill switch is a simple and great idea. I see you help out wherever you can on this here forum, you gave me help many times before indirectly. Good to have you around.

Hey Nym, can you explain answer 2 a bit more?

haha i don't know if i'm allowed to

ok. say you have 4 eight bar sample phrases that you want to play pad by pad.

NOW. each sample = 8 bars. you have 16 pads. you want to have access to all 4 samples at one time without changing programs OR pad banks cuz that's a hassle.

chop each sample into 16 pieces (1 for each pad).
1st sample: 16 chops
2nd sample: 16 chops
3rd sample: 16 chops
4th sample: 16 chops

each pad has 4 layers. you deposit 1 chopped sample from each sample on each pad. Pad A01 will look like this.

layer 1 - SAMPLEONE1
layer 2 - SAMPLETWO1
layer 3 - SAMPLETHREE1
layer 4 - SAMPLEFOUR1

next, enter GPE and scroll to the far left to the pad number column. hit window and enter the VELOCITY Range screen.

hit WHOLE and set each Velocity Range. basically you're dividing 1-127 by four chunks. i do it from the top: 91-127 is the first layer, 61-90 is the 2nd, 31-60 is the third, and 0-30 is the bottom layer.

now enter Qlink and set it to NOTE ON / LAYER / TRACK

boom, you can play any of the 4 original keys depending on qlink position

this can be used for individual samples, too, like drum kits, snare choices, etc.

i've explained this a couple times and it doesn't really get any less wordy, it's kind of a handful to type but coupled with grid edit it's my most favorite feature, especially now that WHOLE is in GPE like that.

Hah. Ain't this a little powerful box we all own. Just take all your technical knowledge and be creative. It's feels like the first day I got the 1000 all over again.

Thanks Nym

no problem man. yeah it feels like there's always something else to try.

hey man, if i was in your position, i would be adding your own spin to these keyboard parts. I know they must be a bit complex to play live, but i would get around it like this.

Cut them into manageable parts, say 1 bar and 1/2 bar bits.

Assign those variously along your 16 pads.

Bash on them. doing it this way is cool, as you retain the key the keyboard player was playing in, but by stuttering and chopping and changing the order of things, you'll make the performance your own.

you'll find some fun glitchy stuff with the note repeat, and just different stuff depending on how you chop (experimentation is in order here) Play with it for an hour or two, you'll find new way cooler stuff than the keyboard player ever had!!

Have fun
