How do you change the level of a complete program?

I need to lower the volume of the entire kit in a program because the bass program is quieter. This is because the filter distorts and I have to set the ATT to -6 on the bass program filter.

How can I change the level of the kit program keeping the relative level of each pad? You can change the level of the 4 samples on a pad, and the overall level and panning of each pad - but can I change one thing which adjusts the entire program?

get bluebox and load ur program and click onlevel adjust it then rightclick on settings aply to layers and aplly to pads

try hitting [MODE] - PAD 11. Then F5 to Go to the OUT screen. Then you can click whole and highlight LEVEL. You can adjust overall volume levels this way. Hope this addresses your problem.

Hi wUnderlabs, its a good suggestion and I like changing the pad levels there. Unfortunately it doesn't scale - if I have the kick at 100 and hat at 50, I could move the kick down to 50 but the hat has gone down to 0...

But it is a great way to set levels, so thanks for the tip.

oh well. while i've learned to live without it, i've always thought that not including a track mixing screen (in the format of the pad mixing screen) was a big omission. i've read other posts that say that jj can't include it due to limited flash rom memory for the bios.

I agree, a program mixer screen would be great. It does seem an omission to leave out mixing the level between programs. Akai get out of it by describing the 8 additional analogs outs for 'advanced mixing'. I don't want to connect up more cables to a mixer, but it is tempting just for sub mixes and more effect processing.

Looks like we can't expect new features from JJ OS if the firmware is already full. There's not a lot more I could want (unless we are redesigning from scratch with real envelopes for example).

How did you contact JJ for this feature request? I sent a request for fade out to remove clicks at the sample end in a bug fix form and haven't heard back. How did you do it?

I usually just hit mode prgm, then while constantly spinning the jog wheel hit all the pads may take a sec but works.Unless there is a easier way.

Hold down the shift key and touch each pad in the program that you
want to ajust . then when you push your fader up or down it should
make an over all ajustment for the volume of all the pads you touch
in the program.

Pros&Cons, this doesn't keep the levels relative to each other. Set Pad A01 full on then A02 half way down. Once you shift hit both, turn the data wheel so pad A01 is half volume - A02 should be turned down to 25% not disappear completely.

different methods for different types of volume turndowns.

1 - easiest and most immediate on any old decrease in volume: MIXER LVL
enter GPE, move to OUT and turn down the LVL
--issue: if you have automated levels, say a sweep from 100 to 0 on a track, during that spike at the beginning (90 and above) your turndown is basically overridden for that moment.

2 - less immediate, more "relative" PAD LEVEL (the method i prefer as it's "pre" MIXER LVL)
enter GPE, scroll to the pad name list (A01, A02, etc). hit window. hit WHOLE A01-D16. on each of the 4 layer levels, turn them down accordingly.

3 - more out there, less immediate COMPRESSION GAIN
easy enough. if your track is compressed, lower the gain and adjust threshhold/ratio accordingly.

you could do what i do and mix the trak levels with the [VELOCITY] section on the main screen.
if you bass and drums are in the same track then you could always copy the trak and remove the bass from the 1st trak and the drums from the 2nd.

i'd use this sooo much more if only it also lowered the volume of the PADS too.

have you noticed that? it lowers the velocity of the recorded sequence, BUT the pads still play at the same volume...kind of irritating.

the 3rd place to turn things down. very nice. i think a bug report is in order to make the pad playback reflect the track velocity setting. i'll work on that at some point.
