just got the jj os. I need this to work but the time stretching seems off a bit. I looped 2 bars precisely and detected the tempo (110) which I think was on point, but then I changed the tempo to about 96 bpm's and it didn't loop like it should when i play it in a sequence set for 96 bpm's. Also, in program, where do I set the attack and decay of a sample. Why is it that when i set a slider to real time tuning on a bass note and then the second slider on a snare to control tuning, the second slider then also controls the notes that were played using the first slider?

also, when i chop a loop that is maybe 98 bpm's into 8 equal parts over two bars, how come when i play them in order it doesn't sound like the loop at all. I created a new program so all the new chops should be on time. are these the bugs that others are dealing with?

and another one. now when just playing the original loops I had, there's this real annoyign tempo/pitch change in the middle of it that distorts the sound and knocks the timing off. what the hell is going on here? i thought jj os was an upgrade, none of it is working.

The problems your having are something that I don't think anyone else is dealing with. Mine is working fine, but that's not an answer to your problem(s). :) I want to make an assumption that maybe your doing something incorrectly, but I would have to see exactly how your trying to work the MPC. I know when I was new to any machine, I always thought something was wrong with it, but 90% of the time it was me. JJ's had his share of bugs, but if your MP is messed up in some kinda way, his os can't fix that. Try loading up the akai os. If you still have the same problems, then maybe it is the os. I dunno.

You are doing the manual tempo detect aren't you?
The auto detect in JJ is a carryover from the Akai OS and doesn't work under either because it's peak detect not time based.
Everything you desrcibed just sounds like you were off at teh start which makes everything else off.

actually I am doing the auto detect. If it doesn't work in either OS, why wouldn't either akai or JJ make it work like it did on the 2000xl? It seems like it is just about some calculations and programming that I'm sure the machine and programmer could handle.

Because the XL didn't detect peaks.
On the JJ v5 it works like on the XL once you hit manual it ask you to input the number of bars (beats) then it detects the tempo.
That's the same way it worked on the XL, you had to manually tell it how many bars (beats).

"why wouldn't either akai or JJ make it work like it did on the 2000xl?"

I'm with you on that. I don't like the new way of time-stretching, but all I do is auto-detect the sample first and adjust the bpm a little. The old way was much simpler. I still never use the pre-set FEM-VOX/ VOCAL setting tho. I don't notice any difference no matter what setting I use.

On both the 2500 and XL the TCE and Beat Detect are two seperate functions.
They do similar things but arent the same function.
That's why it was good that JJ gave back the old Beat Detect like on the XL and left the new Auto Detect as well.
On both the XL and 2500 TCE is similar and have presets to use.
