I always thought that you couldn't change sequences after recording or overdubbing, but you can change seq if its set to immediate start or immediate play... it's only if it's set to end of sequence that it doesn't work...jj says in this mode it is actually impossible, which makes me wonder why thats the case if it works with the other modes.

Secondly, this seq change after overdubbing thing is really cool if you use the mpc live:
Say you want to layer up a percussion loop which is only one bar long but want to overlay that with other patterns that are maybe four or eight bars long.
1.Start out with two blank sequences with programs layed out how you want and the tempo set how you want.
2.Make seq 1 one bar long and seq 2, 8 bars long.
3.Set seq to Immediate Play
3.Set Simult seq to Seq 1
now your ready for live performance!
4.Layer up your drums and percussion on Seq 1
5.Move to Seq 2 and add sounds to your 8 bar pattern.

The cool thing with this is at stage 4. Simult seq doesn't play along with Seq 1. In other words you don't have the same sounds playing twice with all the phasing and stuff. As soon as you move to seq 2 , seq 1 keeps on playing! (If you returned to seq 1 with seq 1 still set as simult you would then get the unwanted phasing.)

what do you mean by #5 'add sounds to your 8 bar pattern' ?

i like it when u have seq's different lengths, and when switching seq's - the 'play head' is at the instant it should be when in the next seq, so if u have a 9 bar pattern but change to a 3bar pattern at 2 bars, the seq plays the last bar, but if u are at bar 7 of the 9 bar pattern, switching to the 3 bar would bring u to bar 1 of the 3 bar pattern. etc. ace for assymmetric sequencin.

been away y'all, hows life on the 482?

what do you mean by #5 'add sounds to your 8 bar pattern' ?

sorry if i didn't explain it right, it was a suggested example for live beat creating:
1.Start by playing the pads as the mpc records. The seq is set to a one bar loop. The sounds should layer up until your happy with your one bar loop.
2.Switch to another sequence.(The first one bar loop should continue as the selected simult sequence) The new sequence will be blank apart from programs,b.p.m and the number of bars. The number of bars in my example was 8 but it could be any length.
3.On the new sequence, play the pads whilst recording .In my example you will be able to record a live performance which loops every 8 bars. (The original one bar loop continues playing at all times due to simult seq)

The main use for me is when the melodic ideas im playing with are longer than the percussive ideas, as i don't always want to spend ages playing in the percussion.
