regarding jjs os on both machines there are probably some differences, I have a 1000 right now but I was thinking for Live usage that a 2500 is probably more satisfying ergonomicly speaking.

what i'd like to know is are the Slicing, next seq features, track mute and track mute recording, and autochromatic features on both models the same or different?
I'm really only concerned about those features in paticular.

From my understanding aside from the physical characteristics, you can do everything on the 1000 JJOS that you can do on the 2500.

yea, after the JJ upgrade it really comes down to the extra outs, the extra midi outs and the solid build of the 2500. Beyond that software and function wise you don't miss out on much.

Essentially what you can think of the JJos is is a hack to use all the 2500 features.

When Akai made the OS for the 1k and the 2500 they used an engineering trick that is quite common these days. You develop an OS platform for multiple machines (Saves time and money). Companies do this ALL the time, if you are saavy you can find different machines and such where you can take advantage of this fact.

then in the lower priced model you simply lock out the extra features and make them only available on the higher end model. This increases demand, which increases sales.

So more or less the jjos just inputs these functions which are able to be run on the platform, but just not available before on the 1k.

yes very true

except for one very small detail, not really correcting you, lithion, just pointing it out because i see it a lot online

google jj os and you'll find "gives the 1000 most of the features of the 2500" which is misleading. the jj os doesn't just give the 1000 the same features from the 2500, it gives the 1000/2500 better versions of all of the features found on the 2500 + features NOT found on the 2500.

so it's not like they were just unlocked from the 2500 - for example, 16 pad grid edit on the jj os's is different from the grid edit on the 2500.

I have the mpc 1000 and the jj os, but i want to get a 2500 also, the thing is I don't want to get the 2500 if the Slicing , muting, mute recording, next seq features, auto chromatic, and patchprase, are not as good as the 1000.
thats what i'm asking .... are those features the same quality on the 2500 as is the 1000?

historically, jj updates the 2500 with everything he updates for the 1000, like a day or two after updating the 1000.

he has been fair.
