Hi,

Suppose I have one 10-second sample. Is it possible to have this sample on two pads -- but for it to start at the beginning on one pad, but at the 5-second mark on another pad?

(edit: to clarify, I don't want to make a copy of the sample in memory. I want both pads to utilize the exact same sample.)

Thanks in advance!

Go to Trim mode and copy the sample that you want to start @ dif points. Change the start point of that sample to the desired S. Point. Them go back to the program that you're using and if you have pad data (like filter tweaks or pan info) that you also want to copy, then go to Mode+pad 7 and highlight, for instance, A02 on the leftside of the screen and press the WINDOW button. That'll take you to Copy pad. So copy your pad that you want to have multiple start points to another pad. Then replace that sample with the one that has the alternate start point. Viola!

(I should mention that I don't own an MPC1000).

Thanks for the reply. It appears, though, that your solution would result in two copies of the same sample existing in memory -- although one version would end up being slightly shorter than the other.

Sorry if I'm missing something,

yes, exactly. If youre not using a 1000 than what are you using? Its hard to help if you dont the same gear.

I was thinking of buying one -- but the ability to store multiple start points for the same sample is an important feature to me.

Thanks,

with 128 megs of ram, having copies of the same sample is really not a big deal.

Oh, I forgot to mention, you can have 1 million start points, cause you can assign you're start point to be anywhere you're Q link slider is. And yes, you only need 1 pad, no copy of sample, (although like Nym said, you'll have so much sample room on your RAM that 1 copy won't kill you).

word

You could make a copy of that 10-second sample at least 72 times before you ran out of RAM

and that's stereo -- double that if its a mono sample
