I think the theory is that JJ was a former akai employee.

major companies do this sort of thing all the time.

its called stealth marketing, akai have made more money from 'JJ' than their "own" stuff - and it certainly keeps all the haters onboard while simultaneously, the 'true to akai' lot - still go on with a loyalty to the firm....

divide and conquer.....thats all it is.

"made more money from JJ than their own stuff"

Well, I paid JJ $30, and Akai £600. Not sure your sums are right.

ummm $30 to every $600.....let me see...umm carry the one....times the lowest common denominator....divided by two.....yea na its not adding up...lol  seriously tho each MPC owner would have to buy the JJ os like 20 times to pass what they paid for the MPC itself.

I expect what Arebee meant was that without JJ, Akai would not sell as many MPCs.

Personally I doubt that they're in cahoots. Freeware and cheep software downloads are becomming more common.

LOL.. Could you imagine JJ's OS with Akai support?

I didn't think so.

sorry let me clear that one up as i thought it was obvious that jj doesnt actually build units! so,who ever paid akai for as OS.?

weve all bought the hardware, but no one ever paid for software, except now.
and how many visits has jj had in 18 months? prolly quarter million?

how many people bought it so far you reckon? 5,000? 10,000?

somewhere in the reigion of 5000 how would i know,

dont suss me with numbers cos no-one knows, (i wasnt even being serious and sadly no-one on this forum can spot a spurious claim with a sense of humour) but my point is that jj could easily be on akai's books, we get a developmental os - although we have to suffer having to beta test it through its entire course, AND (in this theory) akai get to charge for it. its a perfect business plan.....and they could just dump jj if it got too messy or didnt work...or if they got busted - because theyre not directly associated.

luckily for me, its the perfect update to the ridiculously basic original akai os's. and its cheap, $30 for lifetime of updates.

jj didn't know that new pads were coming for the mpc1000
he's actually "coded blind" in the last couple updates, hence the 2x "pad sensitivity fixed" in 4.89 and 4.88

jj could work for Hitler, Akai, George Bush, or fkin hades for all i care, jj's doing a good job and 30 dollars was a fair price to pay. i've said this before, but if this is some enormous conspiracy like some people like to believe, it's actually the first decent job akai has done in a long time.

no matter what he's working "for" akai as long as he codes their machines, because it means akai doesn't have to extend the minuscule effort they did previously to coding. they can spend the extra time doing what they do best - sitting on their hands and ignoring customer feedback

I'm just glad Akai hasn't gone all crazy Coperation steez and tried to shut him down. It wouldn't be the first time.
