You could always give it a try. I dont thing it will do any harm but its just now only a matter of having compatible hardware but also software that recognises the hardware.

SOO...
can you take a 2000xl with an MCD card reader, and save a seq and sample folder on it.... then load it into the JJ via the 1000 card reader and have it read the samples and sequences?
... I know it would take me like 2 seconds to try it, but i not at home, I'm stuck in class.

Do the 1k manuals/ jjos manuals say that the 1k can read other mpc's sequences?
Assuming other mpc's samples are wav's, can the 1k read wavs?
Can the 1k properly interpret other mpc sequences, and is that in the 1k/jjos manuals?

Lamp,
I know you are all about reading manuals... and I did, but the info is incomplete in the cross-application chart in my 1000 manual.
Here is what I found last night by playing...
From the 2000xl to the 1000, you can import your seq, song, and samples, and they are correctly assigned on pads, song plays, everything is all good... however, your data such as pitch, decay, etc. etc. does not register on the 1000, so if you were using this as your "on stage" drum machine to play your XL songs, you would have to do a little setup for each song before you were show ready...
Going the other way, from the 1000 to the 2000xl, the only thing you can do is import your WAVs... but you cannot import seq, or program data, because something is wrong with the file format, and it says "Wrong File".
all in all, I would probably never really move anything from the 1000 to the 2000xl anyway, unless I built a sick kit or something.
...but the potential is definitely there for those heads who want to play on their big drum machine at home, while being able to do gigs with those beats on the 1000 on the road...
EDIT: What we need is those fags at newmark/akai to release the code as open source, so we could really integrate all of these great machines... Anyone know Roger Lynn personally? He probably still owns rights to that code somehow right?

It has been stated many times before on these boards that param data between mpc's won't always work, if at all, but pad assignment/placing from old to new usually works. It's been said before.
however, your data such as pitch, decay, etc. etc. does not register on the 1000, so if you were using this as your "on stage" drum machine to play your XL songs, you would have to do a little setup for each song before you were show ready...Way before the show you should hash out all your compatibility issues and everything so you won't end up azzed out on stage.
Going the other way, from the 1000 to the 2000xl, the only thing you can do is import your WAVs... but you cannot import seq, or program data, because something is wrong with the file format, and it says "Wrong File".
Nothing is wrong with the file formatting, I'm sure it's just coding differences between the 2 mpc's, I'm sure it's also the different param features of the newer mpc's that aren't on the older models, You can import new feature somethings when it's not a feature of that destination machine (on mpc's I'm talking about). WAV is universal, it works in many different machines, more than just akai.

I agree, although I'm not sure what that added. Except pointing out the fact that some of us didnt get our gear in 8th grade.
It's still dope that they are somewhat compatable, although you would think that AKAI would have been thinking about making all of their units compatible from the get-go.
