this happened to someone in a post above and the suggestion was that the version file you installed was corrupted. try downloading 4.97 and putting it back on the flashcard. And i am pretty sure (someone can confirm) but to install the OS from boot (because you can't get to the load screen) is boot holding window. Don't quote me on this but i know its booting when holding a button, i think its window,

Try removing/reseating the RAM expansion, if you have it.

Please do not double post.

sorry to double post , I'm new to this. can I undo a double post ?

I wiped the back off , and think my ram sits on a sprung board with "PS_133 SD 256M" written on it, but I'm a bit weary of touching the chips , I've heard it can mess them up . Any way I gave it a giggle and it seams secure, but I'm not to sure if its the right thing or how to get it out ! It has a 40 G drive in it could it be that ?

I would remove all the optional hardware -- drives and memory. This prob can be caused by shorts or faulty connections. Consult the hardware docs available on the Akai support page as to the proper way to do this. Or just check the sticky posts in the regular 1000 section of the forum. They've got pictures and stuff.

can i ask where you bought your mpc?

i'm buyin mine from hard to find records (htfr.com) and they told me that if you have the new black mpc, the akai uk branch will give you a new one if it is still in warranty.

Good old ebay. The guy I bought it from was cool , I don't think It's his fault , but It's not under warranty.

did this fault start after you installed a new OS to flash? at what point did the problem show up?

i hope im wrong, but it sounds like the the mpc was turned off during a flash install.

are you able to install a new OS from a CF card by booting while holding the window key? does the bootloader menu come up?

maybe you could try re-installing the original akai OS see if this works - and if it does the update then JJ os.

cheers

many thanks and a Happy new year ...
It happened once two weeks ago. Yes, a while after installing jj, then went away for a week! Then this time it stuck.
It is possible that it was turned off during a flash install.
Yes, I have reinstalled using the flash and holding window key a number of times and it completes fine but still no change. To get OS onto my flash I popped the flash into a card reader and dragged and dropped it onto the flash card. I tried 4.97b and nothing, then I tried an older version 3.08 and still nothing. Can you give me the link to reinstall the original Akai operating system?
Cheers.

hey happy new year

possible it coulld be one of two things
if the fault was intermittent -this would suggest that you may have a physical fault, such as a dry joint.
if the mpc were shut off during flash programing - i would have thought it would just hang and thats all you would get.

i've never had the power fail while flash upgrading th OS so i've no direct experience with these symptoms - if someone has please feel free to comment.

heres the akai s link www.akaipro.com/supportos.php#MPC1000
lets hope this sorts it out.

one thing you could try is taking out the 128mb ram and seeing if it boots with the basic ram.

cheers
