I'm getting ready to switch over to JJ OS. I just have one question: are there any problems, inaccessible features, or problems installing that will come about from using JJ OS on an MPC 1000 with a broken compact flash card reader?

There is an 80GB Hard Drive in the MPC 1000 now.

Anyway, thanks for any help and information.

The story for those curious:
Unfortunately, two months after getting my MPC 1000 the compact flash reader broke. I sent it in or repairs under warranty. They held my system for five months and then finally sent it back with a new compact flash reader. The new compact flash reader broke a month after I got my MPC 1000 back. At around this point, Akai stopped responding to me. So I've given up on getting it fixed, and I don't think they would succeed in fixing it anyway. I would have sold the damn things, but without a compact flash reader the resale value was pretty much nil.

From what I was reading on these forums the splash screen needs to be loaded from compact flash. However, I also read some things that contradict that. I was trying to figure out what is accurate in regards to the splash screen and if there was anything else like that. Any opinions?

i think splash screens are the only thing you'll miss out on... not a big deal.

Thanks for the info ... too bad on the splash screens ... guess I gotta go for substance over style?

is it pins that keep bending in your flash reader or what keeps breaking? i believe you can buy a new compact flash drive online as well if you really want one.

I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it. It acknowledges the existence of the flash card, but once it is put into the MPC, all the data gets corrupted.

perhaps the flashcard you have is just incompatible with the mpc?

sorry for stating the obvious... i'm sure you've already considered this... but the fact that it acknowledges the card seems strange to me.

I have tried 2 different 1GB flash cards from the same manufacturer. In addition, I have tried the 32MB flash card included with the MPC 1000. All have ended up corrupted and unusable by the MPC 1000. In fact, the MPC 1000 seems to break the flash cards so they are no longer usable by any system (tried in macs with a USB flash reader and in an SP-404) - once they are corrupted by the MPC1000 they are broken for good. I don't really feel like sacrificing any more flash cards to the system.

Yes there are problems: FOR switching from an AKAI OS to a JJ-OS a functioning CF CARD READER IS NEEDED!!! It's needed because the AKAI OS is incappable of opening/executing binary files (.bin) or the .os2 files of the latest JJ-OS2. Once you installed the JJ-OS1, a cardreader is no longer necessary, because the JJ-OS can handle those file types.

So, to put it in a nutshell: NO WORKING CARD READER, NO JJ-OS on YOUR MPC 1k

PEACE
