you're trippin... it may just be that your chops can actually be saved in stereo now rather than just mono [which is a good thing] and that takes a lil extra extra to save for obvious reasons.

hi boxtones,

which version of jj ?
which card (how big) ?

By boxtones Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:08 pm
check it

it's a 1gb card, it was formatted on the old akai, got the jj os 4.89 a month or so ago

been usin the card ever since with no probs

then the other day i lost all data on it for no reason (akai bug)

so now i had to format it in the jj os

now when i save to it, it saves really slow

i got a couple other cards, 256mb, saves fast to them

i didn't format them yet under JJ though

think the 1gb card is messed up or what?

dont think your card is messed up.

i would send the details to JJ

including

time the loading/saving of the same folder on both formatted and non formatted card. let him know the results.

also let him know how many files in the folder and the total weight of the folder.

cheers

this is happening to me too. im osing jj os 1.

i actually formatted my card in akai's os, and everything saved slow during that time too. i tried reformatting the card using jj os, and the speed hasnt improved at all. its much faster to transfer files from my computer using my dedicated cf card reader, instead of using the mpc.

i use a card reader and my files are fine when transfering from the comp to the card reader

my problem is when i save programs and sequences from the mpc to the card it takes forever

yet i'll put in a 256 card and it goes quick, and before i formatted the 1gb card in JJ, the 1gb card went quick too

now i don't want to format my other cards cuz i don't want them to go slow, but i also don't want to get the akai glitch and lose my data and music like i did on the 1gb card that wasn't jj formatted

i am at a crossroads

As far as transfers to and from a computer are concerned, just about any modern computer to CF adapter -- PCMCIA, USB2.0 or direct internal flash drive will blow away the the 1000s USB1.1 transfer rate, so that's too be expected.

As far as saving from the MPC to the flash card, it's hard to know how slow is too slow without knowing how much is being saved and how long it actually takes, but problems in this area (assuming they are not being caused by a broken flash drive or the infamous Akai corruption formating routine) usually have to do with either a slow/sketchy CF, or an excessively fragmented drive. If fragmentation is the problem, you should be able to solve it by backing up the files, reformatting the CF and writing the files back to CF.

ahh...didnt know the transfer of files usb->mpc1000 was a usb1.1 connection. that makes sense why it would go slower than my usb2.0 cf card reader. thanks for teh input, dont know why i overlooked that.
