Q-Link Slider + Tune + 16 Levels question

Hello everybody, I just made the jump from a 500 to the 1000 with JJ OS 4.99. I'm having trouble with some of the sequences I made on the 500. Apparently the slider behaves differently while using 12 levels on the 500, I recorded a bassline using 12 levels with the slider set to tune so I could slide up to the notes and give it a standup bass feel. When I use tune on the 1000 + 16 levels it jumps back to the source sample whenever I touch the slider. I've asked a buddy about it and he said it always was a problem for him. Any ideas or am I going to have to rerecord some shit? Thanks.

16 levels apparently interferes with the sliders in note variation configs,

so if u r using 16lvls and qlink (but NOT using 'realtime tune') then the sliders will be disabled.

i think this is one of the most poorly conceived function of the mpc series
it's not quite autochromatic, it's not quite a qlink
it's this bastard in between that i feel is just an easy way out. and unfortunately, it's come to be a mainstay in the mpc series software.

16 levels is useful for some things, as its the only device to divide some values into equal parts - it works musically - with beats in mind.

i use 16 levels a lot because i never use twice the same program.
i use a program per sequence.sometimes more (sliced samples, mono programs...)

it's interesting because on the MPC500, you can use 12 levels and use the slider at the same time, allowing you to slide up to notes and do other nice tricks with the qlink. and since the 500 was designed to be your portable MPC that you would use on the go and then drop into your main unit, the fact that the 500 is incompatible with every other MPC made in this aspect is quite an oversight.

I think its only note on qlink stuff you can't do in conjunction with 16levels, Akai's design is that you can only have one note variation at a time for each pad. In a situaton where 16 levels and qlink> note on variation are trying to control different parameters it'll only let you control one. Realtime stuff should be fine with 16levels though.

A little related to this is the faq from JJ's site:

I personally think that it should keep the value that the qlink is positioned at. What i don't understand is whether JJ's saying its impossible to do or whether it'll upset people who are used to using the akai os. If its the latter surely this doesn't have to be a consideration of os2 given that os1/akai pgms don't work the same in os2 anyway?
