I have both JJ OS 3.08 and 4.99-- every time I try to save a file/project/anything I get "directory error!" ... part of the file is saved, but it can not be recalled. I have tried alternately installing both OS's and saving in each with the same result... I have wiped my flash card, re-formatted it, loaded everything back up... and still the same... gotta be something stupid I am overlooking... any ideas?

Did you try a different flash card or a hard drive?

Does the CF drive have any bent pins or breakages?

I have not tried a new card yet, but that is next on the list.... the one in there now is brand new so there are has been no chance to physically damage it... yet

Sometimes they're just bad from the factory.

Sometimes the CF doesn't quite connect in the socket and you have gently press it into the socket to get things to work again.

if you cant figure it out you can always go a backassward way if you really need the cf drive.

buy a hard drive for your mpc (if you dont have one already)
save it to your drive, get a cf card reader for your computer, connect your mpc to your pc and drag and drop to your cf card.

(hopefully you wont have to do that, b/c im sure its a btch) good luck hope you find out whats wrong.

If you didn't format with the JJ os (and I had previously assumed you did based on what you wrote in the first post) then that is very likely the problem. The Akai format routine is bad and will cause exactly the kind of problem you are having. It's a notorious issue around here.

Format with JJ, wipe the Akai disease away......
