i mean maybe i'm still to new to this and its a better way of doing things..

but is it me or is pitch shift on the mpc 1000's useless? i mean regardless of the OS on it.. ??

on all my samples when I try it out..it jus does not sound clean or clear nor have the desired end effect.. being a poor man i just use Audacity and that works like a dream.. quick, CLEAN and gets teh job done.. mpc even on the C settings sound mad distored or echo'y...

or am i missing or doing something wrong?

i try to use it for 2 main things..

1. the micky mouse vocals.. yeah, yeah i know played out.. but still tho i'm jus tryin to establish my learn on.. and use that technique to get to the next level

2. fine a dope 2 bar sample in the groove and jus pitch it up or down a lil to get it to sound "right"..

but yeah please feel free to expand or offer any input on what yall thoughts and technique's be when it comes time to pitch shift on the mpc...

Sometimes I like using the Realtime Pitchshift with a microphone or a circuit-bent instrument. So for me, it's more of an experimental thing.

if you're using an instrument plugged into the MPC inputs, then realtime pitchshift can be very handy for if you have a sample that is slightly sharp or slightly flat of any standard tuning. Sure with a guitar or whatever you can always tune to the samples, but with other instruments this might not be possible

Real time pitch shift can be used to bring the instrument in tune with the samples.

(I've never actually used it for this, but that's what it would be great for)

i never use pitch shift or timestretch
i greatly prefer alternate loop + tuning + note on

I have tried to use this feature, as I have read that this is how some people use there Mp to sound like they are scratching. I have seen some really well done and many awful videos done on you tube. Howevever, I don't seem to have any luck with it...

at least it's not as bad as the pitch shift on the roland SP series... you can't even change the BPM just 1 digit on the SP without it making the original sample just sound like absolute crap.

if software works better for you, than fine-tune your samples in that. as much as i like to work internally within the mpc, there's nothing wrong with doing a little file transfer here n there.

i'd like to see the second filter come back... or be able to flip between the pitchshift & filter.

timestretching a snare as long as possible is nice for drumrolls if you set it to loop and note on. but i never used pitch shift.

miss the second filter, too.

Are you talkin about "real time" pitch shifting the input or pitch shifting as an effect in the sample edit menu? I guess you talk about the sample edit - of course a computer is a better option for stuff like this.

As for the real time pitch shift then what a load of crap it is. It has no place on an MPC because it IT DOES NOT WORK WHEN THE FRIGGIN SEQUENCER IS RUNNING, so what is the point? its bollocks

we had a poll here a lots of idiots said they liked it either because they were idiots or because they thought the polls was about pitchshift in the sample edit menu which they didn't want to lose- in which case they were still idiots because the poll was clear enough. I comminucated with JJ and he said they would keep it because lots of users like it - so its your fault - idiots!

Akais own real time filter was basically 200% better. Even JJ can be an idiot sometimes and this pich shifter was an IDIOTIC idea of his

and yeah your right, I got out of bed wrong side today :)

but I am still right

Ha ha, this thread has got tangled up its own ass! Owen B you didn't even pause to read the first message, u just saw the words pitch shift and let rip... :

But he is right though - and being as he already hi-jacked the thread already let me comment: - I'm a huge fan of what JJ has done and pray for the day someone does something similar for the 4k, which needs it more than any other MPC.... But it is totally weird that he dumped a really nice live performance-related feature of the original OS that people actually liked and used and replaced it with some daft idea which might have 0.0000005% use it a studio but which nobody really needs, and which actually you can't use in real time... that JJ sticks by this bad choice is even stranger.

Dump it JJ, admit defeat, your OS is great but your real time schitt pifter is rubbish. Give us our filter back - we deserve it

BTW I don't really need two filters in the program menu - I always thought this was a bit odd, even the 4k doesn't have this - some more filter types might be nice though....

over and out

jean michel nym.. don't let Sarah Conner see your Cyberdyne systems mpc1000 cause you'll probably get sniped.

"I use it all the time... keep that ****...."

oh yeah, so I guess if you use it "all the time" you never actually use your MPC1000 as sequencer, being as the pitch shifter and sequencer are incompatible... so sell your MPC and buy a whammy pedal, you'll have change

and what do you use it for?

pitchshifting your own farts?
