or maybe not...

I have this idea that I was wondering how possible it is , I actually havent tried to come up with a way to do it myself before asking the question but I'm putting it out there anyway

It came about from me reading up on GATING

now I was wondering ... how useful would it be if the JJOS had included a feature where u could set a Pad to lower the velocity of an entirely seperate pad for EXAMPLE...

u have a drum track banging away and a bassline running underneath it but when the kick hits at the same time as the bass the mix gets muddy and distorts losing the sound of the bassline and the kickdrum and ending up with a fart coming outta ur speakers

wouldnt it be nice to have the bassline run and then when the kick hits it cuts the volume of the bassline from 100% volume to 90% or 80% volume
, its a technique I read about a little while ago , which I think is only acheivable at the mixing stage ... just a thort , I thought it'd be good to have it be effective ONLY while the kickdrum pad is ACTIVE and when its not the bassline returns to normal volume... this could extend on further to different filtering possibilities and effect possibilities all WITHIN the box

if this is already achievable in the MPC2500 sumhow than somebody let me know how ( without manually editing velovities in step edit )

or if sumone thinks this is a good idea whats the best way to pitch it to the JJ team?

yo!
that feature would be called side chained compression and i have already sent a request to jj.

check this :

my post is at the bottom of the page!

I do like your idea of lowering volume instead of the traditional compressor approach. having the idea linked to the mute screen could be great.
Maybe in group mute section you could have the mute value shown in % like you suggested. but have the % tell you how much it is muting the other pad 100% would be completely muted as 20% would just be lowering the volume!

Peace!

i'm absolutely with you on this. i've had similar needs, but didn't know how viable it might be. OS 2 might just be the right time for it!

wow. i've finally had some time to explore the new os a little bit, and while i'm requesting new features ^^^ i just have to says thanks to jj. os 2 is really like having a new machine!

beyond adsr, calling up non-destructive chopped through the pattern organizer is a really tight new feature.

ok cool so it seems others are interested in this feature and as far as I know its not included in any feature set of an MPC series yet... can somebody SERIOUSLY put a request through .... somebody who'll preferably get a response :D, I mean think of the possibilities... if u could control volume and filtering a seperate pad with a specific one that would be outrageous

really, this technique is best done in daw, in an actual mixing environment as opposed to a compositional environment...
benefits from a better compressor, more control.

yeah I know what ur saying but thats on entirely true , at the composing stages of the beat u might skip a real nice bass sample just because it clips during the beat making stage ... so u MAY end up in the DAW with a bass sound that u dont entirely like ... which if u think about it u could use sumthing with a little more low end in the construction stages ... and it doesnt have to be just compressors... it could go on to trigger filter effects and things

Plus 1 for sidechaining here. Of course a daw would probably be better, but something like sidechaining has such an impact on the creation of a track it would be good to have it in there.
