I'm new to the MPC and I'm so glad I found out about JJ OS. It's so cool that some rouge genius in Japan is doing so much for the community. However, there is a single problem that I feel is crippling the power of this beast: the Song Mode is really underpowered.
Are you guys just not using this feature? As it is now, it's not good for much. I have three ideas that would make this thing 100x more useful. Yeah, I know this belongs in the feature requests section, but I thought I'd check in with you all to see if something like this already exists.
I'm think that in addition to SEQUENCE and REPEAT for each song step, you should also get something like START OFFSET, LENGTH, and most importantly: TRACK MUTE.
START OFFSET:
Lets you choose which beat/bar to start the sequence on -- like maybe you want to pickup with a snare hit on the 4, or skip ahead to the ending bar of a sequence.
LENGTH:
Lets you cut the sequence short, or add extra "blank" beats/bars to the end. Maybe you want the second verse of a song to be half as long as the first.
TRACK MUTE:
This is the most important feature. Each step in the song should let you set a "mute group" for the tracks. This is the same idea as the live sequence track mute feature, but you get to capture the set of mutes for each step in a song.
Let's say you have an 8 bar verse. On the 4th bar you want some new synth to come in. Instead of recording the entire part in an 8 bar sequence, you should be able to repeat a single 4 bar sequence twice, and on the second step you could "unmute" the synth part.
You could take it even further and set mute groups for individual beats/bars, but I have no idea how that would work.
Is there some other way to do the above? Anyone know any tricks? Assuming I get enough interest in this idea, I want to send it to the JJ crew.
