step edit note duration?

hello,

doe's anyone have a conversion calculation, or chart for note duration in step edit.
any help would be appreciated.

i'm sure this topic must have been discussed before. if not i'll be surprised.

example:
I want to set the length of a note to 1bar long -
the number that represents the duration of the notes length is just a number.
to find the length out i've been recording a note for 1 bar and seeing what the number is.
but this is annoying and not 100% accurate.


why can't it be in bars and beats like the note position?

anyone else find this a problem... or is it just an mpc thing?

duration = ticks
multiply by 96 til you get what you need

alternately, go into Midi Grid Edit, hit overdub, hit qlink1 AFTER, move to your note, make sure OVERDUB is still red, and then move your qlink1 slider to change the duration in a visually helpful way

Hey thanks nym - knew it was simple - still would like to see beats - i'd like to just punch in say 8 bars etc..
do you think jj would consider the idea ? maybe if it were a switch able option in [options]
i'm so used to cubase logic etc, it's the way my brains wired, from years of these edit pages.

to be honest, my wager is probably not - though i do agree it'd make it cleaner from a strict musical terminology perspective. that's yet another leg up that DAWs have on MPCs functionally speaking

you know what i'd say though, is you could always post up a piece of paper on one of your speakers/monitors with the tick correspondents to a number of measurements: bars, beats, bars+odd quarter notes, etc etc etc. use the numeric key to program in the ticks. pretty fast, not as nice as you'd like but heh it's the best i can recommend...

i've done that before (and subsequently lost em during moves, etc)

the midi grid edit technique is probably the fastest right now rather than just scrolling and scrolling knawmeen
