I'm getting ready to start doing mixdowns in a studio setting. I'm curious to know what's the best way of singling out your sequences as wavs starting from bar 1 out of the MPC 1000. I'm running the latest JJ OS.

Basically I create the beat structure out of song mode and then bounce out of the MPC to a mixer on one channel. Now I need to bounce out into seperate channels on the mixer. Since the mixer does not have a 4 click start before recording, what's the best way to do this.

The vocals will be recorded at the studio so I need to have my seperate wav files in order to have all syncronized together.

I hope I'm making sense here.

Here's what I was requested:

Studio guys need the sequences seperated as wav files that I used to make the complete song with the sound changes an all.

Example:

Sequence 1 = verse beat
Sequence 2 = chorus beat
Sequence 3 = bridge or intro
Sequence 4 = outro
Sequence 5 = drum roll or something

I like my music to change up alot with sounds. What am I missing here?

hi, what kind of mixer are you talking about? the conventional way is to sync your mpc to a recorder (it can be software or hardware ) via midi ( usually MTC or midi clock). No problem you can sync and track your sequences out of song mode but you'll surely have to rebuild your song in a DAW.

(it is also common to start recording the sequence wih 2 blank bars at the beginning for the midi sync) My personal workflow is to track and sync a song in the mpc via the individual outs to a hardware multitrack recorder.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Each sample needs it's own track.

each track outputs to an individual out.
NOTE: stereo samples take up individual 1 AND 2 or 3 AND 4 for stereo output.
mono samples take up ONE individual output, 1 or 2 or 3 or 4.

main output/spdif can be used for 2 extra outputs, just pan hard left, hard right.

each sequence can be converted to a wav file can't they?

6 total indy outs going into your mixer.

I have the Tascam 2488 Portastudio mixer 24 tracks.

Back before I had the MPC I used a boss to create drum tracks. I'd record the beat on track 1; record the keyboard on track two; record the vocals on track 3, etc.

Is this the same concept I'm to use with the MPC. If so how do I sync up the timing from MPC to the tascam?

Of course I can release both buttons at the same time, but is there a more efficient way without using a daw, computer, etc?

it's basically the same concept. To sync up the timing you should link the tascam midi out to a mpc midi in. In the portastudio you may have a midi mode where you set is as master (check if there's MTC). Once you do that when you'll start recording on the tascam it will automatically starts the playback on the mpc. You can make the mpc as slave in mode other and if you choose MTC you can also set the frame rate.

Is it possible to make the Tascam record at the same time the MPC records.

For instance.

I'm recording my drum track on track 1.........can i have it where the tascam's track 1 is set ready to record (red light flashing) and once I push record on the mpc and after the 4 count, the tascam also records at the same time and stops at the same time once the loop is completed based on bars.?

You follow me?

Just like if I recorded from the keyboard to midi A1 on track 2. When I playback the keyboard is playing through the mixer even though I recorded it on track 2 to track 1's beat on the MPC.

Maybe I just don't understand the concept, any enlightment?

the concept is just you rec what you want in your mpc and then you record your mpc in the multitrack. Don't care of the count because i guess you also have an autopunch function in the tascam (which is you record between a in and out point).

If you don't get it again just try to look at the 2488 manual.

This is what I got.............

MPC midi out to mixer midi in
MPC midi in to mixer midi out
MPC midi/sync set to slave on input side, mmc on
MPC midi/sync set to off on output side mmc off

Tascam midi/sync set to external, frame type = 30, generator set to clock

I want to be able to push play record on the Tascam to record to the triggered track on the Tascam

then.............

When I hit play record on the Tascam the MPC starts playing track 1 or the track on the MPC I want to record into the mixer. Timing the same and everything. Does the Tascam or MPC wait for a signal? Like with the 4 count will the tascam actually record after the four count or start immediately upon release?

I want to be able to do my mixdown in the Tascam so I can adjust the frequencies for each instrument to get the correct sound. I also need this to meet my studio requirements.

How do I track out to the Tascam (mixer) from the MPC 1000?

What I'm trying to do is mixdown with the Tascam instead of within the MPC. When I use the MPC in song mode I set up the order of the sequences.

I don't want to bounce the whole song to one track from the MPC. I want to be able to have the MPC launched when I record into the mixer.

For example...........

The sequence in the MPC is made up of four tracks:

Track 1 = kick
Track 2 = snare
Track 3 = hat
Track 4 = synths

I want to be able to push record in the Tascam and it makes the MPC automatically play while being syncronized with the Tascam.

I know this is a midi issue. I need a step by step tutorial.

Example:

Connect midi in from mpc to midi out of tascam
Connect midi out from mpc to midi in to tascam
Set tascam midi/sync to internal
Set mpc midi/sync to midi clock on output side.

I'm confused as hell, someone help a brotha out!

hi, you only need one midi cable to do that (tascam out to mpc in). you said you set the tascam to external. that's not good it must be the Master.

After that it will be easy, that is to say in the GPE screen (OUT) you set kick to out 1, snare out 2 hi hat out 3...etc
