4 and 8 gig cards?

I was reading in the FAQ for JJ OS that people were able to use 4 and 8 gig flash cards.. can anyone confirm this ? I just don't wanna buy a bigger card and have it not work. I only have the 32mb right now. blah

it says:

"have been reported working" to me, is different then yes, they will work 100%. maybe I just read it wrong. my bad.

I was just looking for more details, trying to get a brand on what cards have worked. n/m

if someone bought a 8gb card, used it sucessfully even if akai says it shouldn't it's not possible to be 100% sure all other cards will work, too. but this is as close as you can get to 'it will work'.

some try it and post the results here.

after digging a grip on the forum :

the 2 gig limit seems to be when the MPC os would only read drives formatted for FAT16. now it will read FAT32 so bigger cards can work. (I'm guessing that happened w/the update when HD were introduced)

The only things I could find on confirmed devices are
Compact Flash : kingston 4 gig, Lexar 4 gig
Micro Drives : Seagate 5 to 8 gigs

those were for the MPC500 but based on what was in the forum, the 1000 takes the cards better than the 500

I know from experience the Seagate Microdrives work.... I have been using a 5gb card since I got my MPC......

This is the exact one I have been using for 6 months now with no problems..... They hadan 8 gb version, but I did not think I needed that plus my 60gb hd..... Good luck.... The only prob I have encountered is this card does not fit in alot of ext card readers, but if you connect your MPC to your cpu directly it will not cause you any problems.....

i'm using a 16gb CF card with jjos1. it works. worked with AKAI os2 also. it was cheaper than the 4gbs at the tiger direct store. it'll probably burst into flames soon but in the mean-time i've had ZERO problems with it. its A-DATA i think. I think when AKAI makes a point of saying "up to 2 gigs" all they're covering their ass probably b/c they haven't tested any higher.

I don't know if it would only write to the first 2 gigs or more, but seemed to be able to see everything on the card. I normally use this card with my S5000 via a SCSI card reader, just happened to pop it into the MPC to transfer some samples, which worked.

yeah it is slow via USB. With a friend we did a small test with an old 512mo CF, a new sandisk 2go fast CF and a HD. Results were HD is twice as fast as new CF which is also twice as fast as old CF saving a 50mo folder. I understand the interest of the HD now when i'm tired of waiting while saving.

it's normal. the mpc only got lame-ass usb 1, i almost killed myself when i backuped my 10 gb samples last month. it took me hours!

Yeah yer better off taking the HD out and just using a separate USB2 or firewire drive enclosure for big backups.
