I'm on jjos 4. something, the last one, and although i can see the possibilities
of using this effect when chopping, i'd like to be able to not have it.
Honestly, i dont understand why it is doing this so if somebody would like to
enlighten me it'd be great. I don't see why when you chop at %100 release
it doesn't come out %100 slice, with no stuttering.
The stutter effect should be applied when time stretching, no?

I think he means either gaps between chops or whatever the opposite of a gap would be (an overlap I guess, but since it's probably MONO it's not really possible to overlap)

so maybe try not chopping the sample, or increase/decrease tempo

I think you hit it on the head. Its about timing, timing, timing. I personally had issues with this when I started. It didn't matter the tempo. If mine sample fit, it was timing next.

the release your talking about is a time stretch, if you set it 100 it'll give each slice the maximum time stretch, set it zero if you dont want any time strech applied.

Yeah, that's the problem, the release wont give me the whole slice at %100.
It's always a fade of the sound that's been applied to each slice.
I'll post some samples here in a bit to get a listen to what i'm saying.

thx.

give these a listen and tell me why i'm getting this.

the first sample is a loop snatched from vinyl without alteration:

http://www.faktionink.com/smplz/HiHat_LOOP .mp3

afterwards, i've chopped it in two with the release at %100 and here's
the first part:

http://www.faktionink.com/smplz/HiHat_CHOP 1-1.mp3

and the second:

http://www.faktionink.com/smplz/HiHat_CHOP 1-2.mp3

so, at the end of it there's a bit of echo thing happening plus it adds
a fade which i dont understand why when the release is set to %100.
these samples where done in mpc1000 under "trim" then saved to card
and transfered to computer via the usb.
thx.

your links don't work. but they're probably irrelevant because: the release setting when chopping DOESN'T WORK AS A PERCENTAGE OF THE SAMPLE TIME. what it does is time stretch a tiny part of the end (longer part as you get toward 100) which fades out to buy you a little bit of lee-way with your chop-ends. in fact the term "release" is misleading as it has nothing to do with "release" in adsr sense. time-stretching sounds like garbage anyway.

about the links, there is a space before the .mp3 and i guess because
of that it doesn't show as part of the rest of the url. after you click on the
link and get to the url just add: space then .mp3

so this time streching thing, is it possible to not have it?
That's why i'm confused about the release, why is it that
it does that? Is there a way to chop a sample in whole
chunks without getting the stretch?
This really doesn't make any sense but maybe i've been spoiled
by the computer technology.......

thx.
