MIDI Program change selecting banks

how is it possible to select a bank (ie. A,B,C,D) on your keyboard from the MPC JJos2 after you select yes to the Bank Select question?

I'm not quite sure why this would even be necessary

So he can change banks.

Just toggle over to MSB or LSB and dial away. Which one works depends on which bank select message your synth implements.

ah okay I read it wrong - I thought he was trying to change pad banks with a keyboard, not change a keyboard's program banks with the MPC

THANKS for the response. so it's trial and error with MSB LSB. no set science? wow, i had a feeling that was the deal, but i read somewhere else (tweakheadz) to be careful with MSB LSB it could mess up things within my NOVA's (the synth i'm manipulating banks) OS. is this true or should i just do it?

theres a detailed how to, in the 2000xl forum from a few years ago, **** if i can find it though. im not even gonna try and attempt to remember it off my head, cant you just open window when the cursor is on the pgm field, and enter the bank and pgm from that specific track.

Look in your synth's midi implementation chart. You want to know what kind of midi it understands, that's where you've gotta look.

I've never been into Novation gear, but if the OS actually dies from being sent a bank select message, my opinion is that you should throw that synth away. That's almost a lame as the Elektron SidStation.

i did check my midi chart - that helped somewhat, but i found an easier way than trying to program it manually through the mpc: go into step edit, insert, control change then the mpc activates the overdub button. with both the midi out and midi in cables connected select the performance bank, then the program bank! it works!! the problem (which i have not figured out yet) is each track sends a command then only produces that single program....ie track 1 piano track 2 guitar track 3 strings. by the time you program strings, still only the piano plays. let's keep putting our heads together until we got this worked out! thanks in advance.
by the way,JJ it would be great if you could just hit a pad bank to choose a program bank.

oh yeah, please keep in mind the performance bank is loaded with default programs that i'm trying to first select the performance A126 then select each program within the performance. is there a way to dump the performance into the mpc sequencer, then when running the sequence from the mpc, it sends a temporary performance with the programs i've already selected? then i would not need a program change....hmmmm..

Unless that Novation is multitimbral you will only be able to get one bank/program to play at a time. If it is multitimbral, you can set up the different programs to play on different midi channels to keep them from interfering with each other. You'll have to check the Novation manual as to whether or not that's possible with that machine as I have no clue.

yeh multi's are the go, you can bring a selection of patches from alot of different banks.

thanks again guys, first it is multitimbral and i did set up each part in advance, but i'm to avoid the same set up each time by sending that information from the mpc! but unfortunately novation support says it cannot help me due to the fact this synth is out of production. so now i'm going to try re-installing the os. this is truely a killer board :NOVA II. it has a lot of features just now being introduced to synths. i'm either gonna find a way or live with it (it still works). again, i am open to ideas, thanks
