Program-> params The same page where u can set the mutegroup.
The last line on that screen reads mute target. Here u can select which pad will be muted when push the pad u have selected.

sorry, but I see no such line on my MPC500

The 500 doesn't have mute targets, just mute groups. As in 'hit one pad, it stops another playing'...

I have had this issue once but it wasn't on a 500.

what I did was...

I had a lot of samples in this track so all the pads in bank A were taken and some in bank B. what I did was I went into params on the 2000xl down where the poly/mono function is and went into the mute window. I switched to bank D and pushed an unused pad. I made that pad mute two samples (the max allowd) and chose two of the samples I wanted to mute. then I chose another unused pad in bank D and muted the third sample I wanted to cut off.

now go back to the second sequence and push overdub+play with the timing set on 1/8 and tap both unused pads from bank D.


now go back into your song mode and you will notice the samples get cut off (muted) by a pad that has no sound.
