Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi, everybody, new here. Got an MPC this winter. Upgraded with the 128mb card, new operating system. Worked fine. Haven't used since then. When I turned it on today the screen read "MPC startup". None of the buttons responded. Started again, holding down shift, no os found. loaded os 1.31 sucessfully. It recognizes it, says it's on there. Then back to "MPC startup". When I restarted, same thing.
I removed all the samples and sequences, etc, so i could start loading my own, could this be a problem? I tried starting up while holding down "erase/undo" while turning on in the hopes of resetting the factory settings. Again, just "MPC startup" on the screen and no buttons respond.
So... what's up here? Am i screwed? I wouldn't think. Well, sorry if this question has already been asked. Please help. I haven't even really had a chance to use my MPC500. Now i'm panicking, thinking it's busted. wah!
Thanks again!

Yeah and also, are you using the Akai 128MB RAM or another brand? Other brands do work but not all of them. Check the sticky above here for a cheaper brand that works. Unfortunately I got suckered into buying the steep Akai RAM.

Never touch the pins when installing.

well, as it turned out the "good folks" at guitar center gave me the wrong power supply (it was a floor model). besides the voltage and milliamps being wrong, apparently it suppose to have a negative and not a positive pin. could this have fried my mpc 500?
i'd never used the power supply previously. now all is good.
thanks!
