Laying a bass line.

I had a search for this on the forum and read through the manual but I didn't come up with what I was after. Would be great if someone could shed some light.

So I understand that the preferred method for laying a bass track on a beat is to either use the 12-level function or to record each note externally. What I would like to know is what you guys do to make sure the bass line is in key? I tried using the slider to pitch it up or down but I can never seem to find what I want.

Anyone have any tips for me?

what kind of music are you guys tryin to make?

Im mainly doing hip hop. I just want to know how to get in key. Do I have to learn all the notes in the track?
