undocumented feature? hold loop

hey great tip thanks. I just tried it out and it works.
It also works when you have a not looped one shot sample.
I have a bass-sample set to note off, and when I pushed shift at the same time as that sample it continued playing till the end of the samle without holding the pad.

ace! i had a Zoom Sampletrak before my mpc500 and i loved the way it was so easy to loop and trigger at the same time, on the fly. was beginning to think the 500 couldn't do it. this is a massive help,cheers!

I started with sampling with the zoom sampletrack st224 before I bought a mpc a few years ago. A 2007 version of that thing would be nice. When it comes to saving it is a ****,the loud output noise does not help either, but when it comes to chopping and looping it still beats a mpc 500 in my opinion.

does the 500 recognise samples that already have loop points set? For example i've got loads of pad samples that i've set looped points for using bias peak. Then i guess this info is saved into the wav file. Does the 500 recognise these pre-defined loop points or would i have to set up new loop points in the 500 which would be saved as part of the program file?

Damn, this thread is two yrs old and ppl still don't know the trick to this day. I didn't even knew this thread existed, but I knew the trick from experience from other samplers.

Ahh I see... it basically turns a Note On to a One Shot on the fly... Cool!

Very nice. I don't use loops with my 1/2k at the moment (all for 1-Shot drum programming) but I may have to try this out...!

Great tip! I just got the mpc500 and was ready to return it. Learned to create sequences but I needed to be able to trigger loops in live performance. I asked Akai tech if unit could be used to trigger continuous loops and was told that "it could not." Now with this tip its usable live.
