Got about 3 n0000bie questions!!!!

okay so i just got my mpc 500 the other day and i really like it, but i feel i havent tapped in to its real potential. Bit i have some starter questions....


When i sample and play back the sample it is really quiet even though i have all the knobs cranked.
I sample from my ipod, which is connected to mu kp3 via rca cables. And the kp3 is hooked to the mpc's input. So i play the sample on the ipod and it goes through the kp3 (but i have nothing set, it just flows through) and sample on the mpc. Assign it to a pad and hit the pad and it is really quiet????

When i hit my pad with a sample once, it plays the sample, when i hit it again it plays the same sample just over lapping the other one?????? any ideas????

And i I have my mpc hooked to the kp3 and i was wondering if i could sync their timing?????

I don't know what a kp3 is, so I can't really help you there apart from say to check that the input button on the back of your MPC is up rather than down, and that you have the volume on your iPod and the kp3 up high enough and the recording gain on the MPC up high enough.

when you sample you should see a bar flash up on your screen indicating sound input - that bar should be almost taking up the whole screen. if it isn't it means you need to turn up your iPod more.

regarding your samples playing over the top of one another, you need to go the voice overlap section, hit the pad you're referring to and then change Poly to Mono. hit sequence, then mode, then Pad 6, then scroll your wheel across to Voice Overlap.

I don't have my MPC in front of me to check, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

if your k93 has midi ins and outs, then it's probably possible to sync them. if it doesn't then the answer is probably no.

2 things might help

Mode - Other - Master Level, its default is -12 could try 0

Mode - Program - Sample Level, default is 70% could try 100%

when hitting pads push full level cancel next to do it

Hi there I am a noob to and i had the same thing happen so found that going into [MODE] TRIM: EDIT: Normalize, this brought the sound up to level with the other sounds in the sequence.

I got some noob questions too.
1.I bought the mpc 500 and there are 4 sequences in there.How can i delete them?
2.It allows me to record 2seconds in sequence when i press overdub+play.How can i earn more record time?

U may find answers to both questions in the wonderful black book of MPC-wisdom (aka TFM).

First, check out how to set Autoload ON/OFF (use the index in TFM to find the page). Clearing the Internal Memory could also be a good option (look how to save all programs and sequences in TFM, use index to look for 'Save' to find the exact page of TFM).

Second, according to your description the sequence is short. Browse TFM for how to work with sequences and set their parameters (look for 'sequence parameters' in the index to find the page).

so another noob question...i just got my mpc 500 and i got a axiom 25 MIDI keyboard. i've checked out a couple youtube videos in hopes that one of them would explain how i can connect the two. i read something about MIDI clock, and i'm still not completely sure i understand what that is, but i want to connect the two so that what i play on the midi keyboard records on the MPC as i start to record sequences on the MPC. this may be more of a question for axiom 25 users cause i have no **** idea how to work that thing. it doesn't generate sound itself unless i hook it up to my mac (and i havent gotten software like logic or reason yet but plan to) so i dont know what the hell im doin...any help would be awesome...thanks

jph2122: My only piece of advice to you is: Educate yourself! Read or at least skip through the manuals for both devices. You may find answers to your questions there. Besides, I am sure, even if you don't like or don't know how to read, there are pictures and connectivity diagrams in both manuals. It's not a rocket science to use "search" function on this forum either. One more option is: if reading manuals don't work due to complexity of technical terms that you can't understand, go to any music store (where they sell synths and electronics) and talk to assistants there. They will be happy to help you.

I wanted to record my beat but i can't because it doesn't record the way that i want it.I hit the pads at the right time but it doesn't play as the way i did when i play back my record.What is its problem?

Sounds like you need to change your timing correct settings...

Please write down how to do that cuz i don't know how to do it.

The problem is you haven't even bothered to read the manual.


LOOK at your mpc. there is a button labelled TIMING CORRECT.

press this. use the scroll wheel to turn it off.

hit sequence button. record your tracks.

scratch your head and wonder why it all sounds off beat and out of time.

wish there was a function there was an inbuilt MPC function that would correct your timing problems.

notice there is a timing correct button and press it.

experiment with different settings 1/16, 1/8, etc and see what works best for different tracks.

be amazed as you realize that some tracks like a snares sound better with timing correct on while your kicks sound better with it turned off.

you're on your way to becoming the next RZA.
